Mr. Douglas has over 25 years of pre-hospital, aeromedical and emer-gency care experience. Steve Murray, AAS, MCCP, NREMT-P is the Assistant of Cabell County Emergency Medical Services and a WV Region II Medical Command Communicator. Mr. Murray has more than 25 years of pre-hospital experience

including 11 years of aeromedical and educa-tor experience. Melissa Raynes is the Director for the WV Bureau for Public Health’s Office of Emergen-cy Medical Services. Ms. Raynes is responsi-ble for the overall operations and leadership for ensuring the provision of qualified and cre-dentialed pre-hospital care to patients via the EMS and Trauma/Stroke programs throughout the state. Kip Teitsort, EMT-P, is owner of DT4EMS, LLC., a company specializing in the use of self-defense for health care providers. Mr. Teitsort completed paramedic training in 1992 and graduated from Missouri Southern State University Police Academy in 1995. Leslie Willard, RN, CFRN is the Trauma In-jury Prevention/Outreach Trauma Nurse Clini-cian at West Virginia University Medicine (WVUM)/Jon Michael Moore Trauma Center. Ms. Willard has vast experience in pre-hospital, aeromedical and emergency care. Melvin Wright, DO, FAAP is the Medical Director of WVU Medicine Children’s Hospi-tal Pediatric Intensive Care Unit and the Chil-dren’s Hospital Pediatric Ground Transport Program. Dr. Wright is currently a member of the West Virginia OEMS Medical Policy Care Committee (MPCC) and the West Vir-ginia Always Ready for Kids (ARK) Medical Advisory Committee. Objectives • Identify the incidence of verbal and physi-

cal violence directed at care providers. • Discuss issues and strategies when faced

with a violent encounter. • Review the use of “reasonable” force in

self-defense. • Describe the importance of care provider

education regarding job violence • Discuss the objectives of the national

“Stop the Bleed” campaign. • Understand the principle of life-

threatening bleeding control including tourniquet usage.

• Identify appropriate locations to position bleeding control kits.

• Discuss the definition and epidemiology of pediatric sepsis.

• Identify the etiologies and pathophysiol-ogy of pediatric sepsis.

• Discuss the clinical manifestations of pediatric sepsis.

• Discuss the management of pediatric sepsis.

• Describe the differences in a pediatric assessment versus an assessment other populations.

• Discuss the importance of the “growth and development” assessment in the pe-diatric population.

• Identify approaches for optimal pediat-ric patient care documentation.

• Discuss the role of the regional medical command center and the importance of the call-in assessment.

• Discuss the definition and epidemiology of bronchiolitis.

• Discuss the etiologies and pathophysiol-ogy of bronchiolitis.

• Recognize the clinical manifestations of bronchiolitis.

• Discuss the management of bronchiolit-is.

NOTE TO WV EMS PRE-HOSPITAL FIELD PROVIDERS: In order to receive 5 hours and 40 minutes of EMS-Related Continuing Education Units for the 5th ANNUAL EMS FOR CHILDREN PEDIATRIC SYMPOSIUM ON JUNE 28, 2017 in Flatwoods, WV at RETI Training Center you will need to follow these steps:

1. Complete the online registration form at www.wvoems.org/onlineregistration. Ensure your information is correct as it is utilized to contact you and to print your certificates.

2. Register in CIS by logging into CIS to register for the symposium.

3. Go to “Education” on the left side in the box. 4. Click on “Scheduled Courses” 5. Enter course number 14607 and press “Search” (This will

populate the course you wish to register for).

The Course Number is: Course Number 14607

6. Click on “View” (this is in the right hand box at the end of the course listing).

7. Identify “Course Reg Code” (This is in the right hand column labeled “Course Reg Code”. This should be a six digit/alphabetical code.

8. Click on “Registration Info” 9. Enter “Course Reg Code ZH5TS8 10. Click “Register” 11. The screen will then indicate that you are registered for the

course.
