Blocking

S Blocking allows a group of students to be assigned to the same house and to pick their rooms consecutively. Participation in a block neither increases nor decreases a student's opportunity to receive a better lottery outcome.S Blocks may consist of 3 to 6 students.

S Blocks may be single-gender or coed, but roommate pairs must be single-gender unless requesting a gender-neutral house. In gender-neutral housing, roommate pairs can be mixed gender.

S Every member of the block must complete an online application.

S The block leader determines the house preferences for blocks being placed into a house.S The block leader also determines the sequence in which roommate pairs within the block

select during in-person room selection.

S Students with approved medical and/or SDAO needs, beyond air-conditioning, should contact the Housing Assignments office for details regarding blocking.

House Linking

S Pilot program for students currently living in Blackwell, Brown, and Giles.

S Designed for students whose first priority is continuing to live with their first-year community, rather than a house location.

S Participants will be placed in the same West Campus house during housing assignments process.

S Cannot allow traditional blocking with up to six students, instead students will be a part of a house block.

S While the house block will be placed into the same house, it is unlikely that all students will be able to select adjacent rooms.

House Linking…more

S Roommates can be requested, provided that they live in your same house.

S You cannot “pull someone with you” into the linked house block if the student lives in a different East Campus house.

S Questions? Reach out to DSG VP of Campus Life Lizzie Speed ([email protected]) or Assistant Vice President of Housing and Residence Life Joe Gonzalez ([email protected]).
