••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• FILM STUDIES Academics Experience Film studies at Nebraska will enable you to understand the main outlines of the history, theory and practice of flms on an international scale; the artistic development in at least one area of specialization within flm studies, such as Asian, African, or feminist cinema; and the main contributions of cinematic culture to our society as a whole. Core courses will cover flm history, flm genre, flm directors, and flm theory and criticism. You will also integrate your studies with communication studies, rhetoric, philosophy, literary criticism, ethnic literature and visual cultures of all types. Imagine yourself in electives like Film Directors, Women in Popular Culture, Writing for Films, Music in Films and many more! In the College of Arts and Sciences, we know experience is valuable and goes beyond the classroom. We strive to help you connect your academics with research, internships, education abroad, service learning and leadership experiences. Take advantage of opportunities in flm studies such as: • Studying abroad in Singapore • Interning with Cannes Film Festival in Cannes, France • Researching international cinema • Joining Cinema 16, the student flmmaking group • Volunteering with Humanities Nebraska Opportunities Career opportunities in this area are nearly unlimited and include: archival work at major studios and museums, publicity work, teaching flm studies, reviewing and / or writing for newspapers and magazines, and screenwriting. Tese jobs are available on the local level, as well as in major metropolitan centers such as New York, Los Angeles, and Chicago.
