RPL (Recognition of Prior Learning) is available for this unit. Speak to your teacher/assessor to check if you qualify for RPL.

Conditions of AssessmentSkills must be demonstrated in a workplace or simulated environment where conditions are typical of those in an ICT working environment or ICT work-place. This includes:

A site where ICT needs and strategic directions of the organisation are coordinated

Detailed information relating to a strategic organisation plan, objectives, and direction

Organisational policies and procedures relating to the implementation of ICT changes

Individual superior in the organisation Information on current ICT systems and practices in the organisation in-

cluding operating systems, hardware, and security

You will need to complete the learning and undertake all assessments satis-factorily to be deemed competent. You are responsible for complying with all assessment item instructions; submission and collection requirements; under-taking assessment tasks honestly and retaining a copy of all assessment items.

You must submit assessment items by the due date, unless an extension has

been granted by your teacher. Failure to submit assessment items by the due date will result in a “did not submit” being recorded and depending on your circumstances, you may be granted one final resubmission.

To be judged competent in this assessment item the student is required to demonstrate competence in all indicators shown in the marking guide.

The Classroom as a Simulated Work EnvironmentStudents must be aware and take responsibility for the problems of working in a shared IT environment. Problems such as noise levels, production flow, in-terruptions and time variances are common to workplaces. In the simulated environment provided in the classroom these problems can take the form of:

Other students who continually ask questions or talk aloud while think-ing

Fire drills, projector not working, printers running out of paper or toner cartridge

Miscalculating how much work you can do in one day, missing classes and so on.

Some things are unavoidable and you must devise strategies to overcome them, for example, we cannot stop students from asking questions or entering at exiting the class. Other things are unpredictable (e.g. fire drills). You need to be aware and plan and organise your work allowing some extra time for un-avoidable and unpredicted events.

Assessment Conditions: A site where ICT needs and strategic directions of the organisation are

coordinated Detailed information relating to a strategic organisation plan, object-

ives, and direction Organisational policies and procedures relating to the implementation

of ICT changes Individual superior in the organisation Information on current ICT systems and practices in the organisation

including operating systems, hardware, and security Access to a computer with internet, applicable charting software and

word processing software

Assessment Criteria:To achieve a satisfactory result, your assessor will be looking for your ability to demonstrate key skills/tasks/knowledge to an acceptable industry standard.

Refer to the marking criteria document for a detailed list of items.

Number of Attempts:You will receive up to two (2) attempts at this assessment task. Should your 1st attempt be unsatisfactory (U), your teacher will provide feedback and discuss the relevant sections / questions with you and will arrange a due date for the submission of your 2nd attempt. If your 2nd submission is unsatisfactory (U), or you fail to submit a 2nd attempt, you will receive an overall unsatisfactory result for this assessment task. Only one re-assessment attempt may be granted for each assessment task, with the exception of Apprentices or Trainees who are permitted an additional supplementary

The project requires you to analyse and evaluate the strategic planning to determine the potential business gaps, improvements and opportunities. Your results will be provided in the form of a report.

NO NEED TO DO

a) Research a number of current emerging technologies in the ICT industry (minimum 5) which may help your client’s organisation to achieve their vision.

1. Drones Drones enable robotic automation with fewer geographical restrictions, the report noted. Opportunities for development and integration are high for this market, it added.

2. Cybersecurity It will keep your data all in secure

3. loTloT is driving business changes by providing the data needed to improve marketing, increase sales, and decrease costs, the report found.

4. Artificial Intelligence (AL)AL is already significantly impacting the way customers interact with businesses via intelligent websites and bots, and these tools are becoming increasingly commoditized and integrated into daily work, the report noted.

5. Serverless computing (SC)SC allows organizations to create a NoOps IT environment that is automated and abstracted from underlying infrastructure, reducing operational costs and allowing businesses to invest in developing new capabilities that add more value, the report found.

6. 5G Network

b) Create a star or cycle chart organiser to present the emerging technologies that might help the client’s organisation/team to succeed over the long term.

c) Create a Gartner Hype Cycle diagram to identity the emerging technologies and the expected timeline at which they will reach “plateau” and should be implemented or deployed.

Part 2: Compare and contrast current and future conditions

Create a compare-and-contrast graphical organiser chart (Venn diagrams or table/matrix) to illustrate the differences between the client’s organisation’s current IT infrastructure or setup and the desired future infrastructure or setup. Your comparison should include both, qualitative and quantitative perspectives. If you did not receive sufficient information from your client at your initial meeting, request further details via email. Include the email/s as part of your submission.

First, identify the following current details in relation to your client: Description of the business Current IT infrastructure or setup Current security guidelines: Password encryption, level of access

Then, to complete the chart, enter information that describes where the business wants to be in the long term, in relation to their:

Strategic plan Objectives Business needs Technical requirements

Part 3: Compare and contrast current and future IT systems

a) In the previous task you created a chart that compared current and future business conditions. This activity is similar in that you are still analysing the case study, however now you will compare and contrast the existing processes and data flow with the proposed new processes and data flow.

Your basic chart should look like this:

b) Further, prepare a set of Data Flow Diagrams (DFDs) that reflect the new processes and data flow.

Part 4: Impact of changes - Evaluation

Once the compare and contrast activities have been completed in PARTS 2 and 3 you can start evaluating the impact of the strategic plan in terms of:

gaps improvement opportunities, and proposed changes

a) Carry out a gap analysis by looking at the organisation’s current state and the desired future state. You can use a SWOT analysis diagram or similar tool. You must display the gap as a graph and also provide written explanations.

b) List the improvement opportunities identified c) List the proposed changes.d) Create an evaluation table to analyse the impact of the proposed changes identified in section c)

against the strategic planning objectives. You must prioritise the changes and identify the diffi-culty level of the proposed implementation.

e) Send an email to your manager (teacher) indicating that the evaluation has been completed and submit the evaluation documentation for feedback.
