ENGLISH
This week’s work will be based letter writing.
Success Criteria Letter writingCreating a listLabels/description
Read the story ‘Love from Paddington’ below with an adult.
TaskRead the story together. Discuss what is happening, identify that it is a letter to Aunt Lucy. Is this how you would usually write to someone? What is different? When you know the story underline or highlight some the actual letter part. Does the letter make more sense when you take out the story?
Types of letter.See below
TaskToday we are thinking about why a letter might be sent. Letters to adults could be different to letters for children. Make a list of all the different types of letter you know about.(Remember invitations are also a type of letter).
Challenge: Which are most
exciting, letters to adults or letters to
children?
Writing a letter.
TaskLook at the example sheets on how to write a letter. We are going to write a friendly letter, likePaddington, but without all the muddles. Think about someone you are not seeing at the moment who would love to hear from you. Following the layout, write about all the fun things you are doing at home.
You could post this letter on an exercise walk if wanted.
Other ways of communicating.
Task Letter writing is one way we keep in touch with other people. What other ways can we use? Are there different ways in different countries? What different ways have been used in the past?
Draw and label the different ways you have found.
Challenge:How is will-I-am
communicating for the future?
Maybe start your search here:http://will.i.am/about
New ways to communicate.
TaskDid you find out why
will-I –am is so special?
Yesterday you researched how people used to communicate, today you are going to design a way to communicate in the future.
Draw or make a Lego/junk model of your invention.Write labels or a description of how it works.

Year 1 - Timetable Week Beginning Monday 11th MayHistory: How are our toys different from those in the past?Think of your favourite toy. What is it made of? How does it work? Does it use batteries?Compare it to some of the toys used in the past by visiting The Toy Museum: https://www.vam.ac.uk/moc/Do you recognise some toys we still see today? What were toys made of in the past? Did any of them use batteries?Look at the images below. Put them in order from the oldest to the newest. Add a sentence underneath to describe each toy.
R.E. Read this poem with your child. Footprints In The SandOne night a man had a dream. He dreamedhe was walking along the beach with the LORD.
Across the sky flashed scenes from his life. For each scene he noticed two sets offootprints in the sand: one belongingto him, and the other to the LORD.
When the last scene of his life flashed before him,he looked back at the footprints in the sand.He noticed that many times along the path ofhis life there was only one set of footprints.
He also noticed that it happened at the very
Year 1 - Timetable Week Beginning Monday 11th Maylowest and saddest times in his life. This really bothered him and hequestioned the LORD about it:
"LORD, you said that once I decided to followyou, you'd walk with me all the way.But I have noticed that during the mosttroublesome times in my life, there is only one set of footprints.I don't understand why whenI needed you most you would leave me."
The LORD replied:"My son, my precious child,I love you and I would never leave you.During your times of trial and suffering, when you see only one set of footprints,it was then that I carried you."

Talk about how God can help us when we are feeling down.Think of a time when you have struggled and someone has helped you.Think of some of the people who are finding things difficult at this challenging time.
Task: Write a prayer or draw a picture asking God to help them.
Science - The Life Cycle of a PlantToday we are going to add another page to your plant diary. So far, you should have a picture of your plant for the front cover and a list of all of the things a plant needs to grow.
Watch the video about the life cycle of plants. https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zpxnyrd/articles/z2vdjxs
Year 1 - Timetable Week Beginning Monday 11th MayScientific skills we are going to be using:
Observation - using our senses to take notice of what is happening. Recording data - writing our observations down and using pictures to help us to remember. Prediction - thinking about what could happen next.
Task:
Take a picture of or draw you plant into your booklet. Under the picture, answer the following questions. Remember to use your best handwriting and answer in full sentences with a capital letter and full stop. Does your plant look similar or different from the beginning of your diary? List the similarities/differences. How has it changed over time? Why do you think it has changed or stayed the same? What other changes do you think will happen to your plant over the coming weeks and months?
Challenge: Draw the life cycle of your plant into your booklet. You could use the template to help you.
