THE GOOD NEWS

Today’s Psalm Response

Lord, let your mercy be on us, as we

place our trust in you. (Psalm 33)

Word in the World

Fifth

Sunday of

Easter

You are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people of God’s own. 1 Peter reminds the church

to recognize its true dignity

and vocation to live in God’s light

Called into close relationship

with Christ the Light

the way and the truth and the life

our way of living as

Christian community gives us

a mission to share the Word we hear

Acts reveals some differences and divisions

in the Christian community

based on culture and language

Such differences can be resolved

only by the Spirit of truth

that joins all who profess Christ

as God’s own people

Until we become truly one body

with unity of mind and heart

we are unable to give witness

to Jesus the Way

Each time we come

to break open the Scriptures

we are called to conversion of heart

and to reach out first

to sisters and brothers

gathered to share the Word

Then the world can begin to see

how God is working in our midst

and how we stand in the truth

that we are called to proclaim

as the holy nation that 1 Peter calls us to be

OPEN YOUR BIBLE

You can find the answer

to our weekly question

by some study and

searching in the Bible.

You might be surprised

at what you find! A good

resource is also found at www.usccb.org/bible/books-of-the-bible/index.cfm

This Week: Two Josephs went into Egypt

and lived there: 1) son of Jacob and Rachel

in Genesis—Ch. 37; and 2) Foster father of

Jesus in Matthew—Ch. 2. Which of the two

ever returned alive to the land of Israel?

Apr 12 Question: Which prophet could be desig-

nated as patron of delivered meals? Daniel 14?

Answer: We find Habakkuk carried by an angel

with food he had cooked into the lions’s den where

Daniel was being held. (Daniel 14:33-39.
