Dear Parishioners, Many of you have noticed the three new benches adorning the entrance of the church which have been routed with the three virtues of faith, hope, and charity. We at St. Alexander parish are grateful to Mr. Michael Anderzunas (graduate of St. Alexander School Class of 2015) who completed this en-deavor for his Eagle Scout project. Michael worked many hours raising funds, organizing his fellow scouts, and assembling these beautiful benches. Thank you Michael for your hard work and dedication to your parish. We at St. Alexander will keep you in our prayers as you continue your journey in your quest for the rank of Eagle Scout. God Bless, Father Marty

SCRIPTURE REFLECTION

The Old Testament reading from Deuteronomy praises God for inscribing the commandments in our very bodies. God's law is not distant or foreign, but a natural part of us. In his letter to the Colossians, Saint Paul echoes Moses, praising God for becoming one of us. The truly human, flesh-and-blood Jesus reminds us that God always wants to be recognizable and familiar to us. Jesus, who is also truly God, wants to be on intimate terms with each of us. God's passionate desire to be known by us is almost too wonderful to take in. Luke's Gospel helps us un-derstand how to respond. The Good Samaritan para-ble provides practical advice for those who believe in God's intimate love for them and want to share that love with others.

WORD OF LIFE “To understand more fully how to defend and protect human life, we must first consider who we are, at the deepest level. God creates us in his im-age and likeness, which means we are made to be in loving relationship with him. The essence of our identity and worth, the source of our dignity, is that we are loved by God.”

Religious Education at St. Alexander Parish is a religious formation program for children dedicated to inspiring a thorough knowledge of God and the wit-ness of Christian love. “My Final Wish” — An informational meetingon pre-planning funeral

arrangements for people of all ages Tuesday, August 13th at 7:00

St. Julie Billiart Church — Parish Hall St. Julie Billiart is offering an opportunity for the community and their families to learn in a loving and practical way several necessary decisions or consider-ations required when someone dies. Our intent is to help you ensure that your wishes are communicated and understood while easing the burden on your fami-ly by doing some pre-planning; it can make difficult decisions much less difficult and act as a final gesture of love. We will begin with a short prayer and informative presentations; topics for pre-planning, preparing a funeral liturgy, burial options available from Catholic cemeteries, legal concerns, and funeral arrange-ments. Fr. Lou Tylka, along with representatives from the Archdiocese of Chicago Catholic Cemeteries, at-torneys who deal with wills and estate planning, and several local funeral directors will be on hand to an-swer any questions. Many find it uncomfortable or unsettling to discuss end of life wishes. Often one’s final wishes evolve over time and may even change. The expressing of your intentions is of great comfort to your family no matter how young or old you are. St. Julie Billiart Church is located at 7399 W 159th Street in Tinley Park.
