Reliable & Fast: Detects all four classes of bio-agents at concentrations less than 100 ACPLA in under 1 minute with 0 start up time (immediate alarm capability); High confidence trigger with low false alarm rates (less than 1 per month). User-Friendly: Designed to run continuously in the background with minimal interaction. Can be integrated with most HVAC systems. Low maintenance and consumables. Field-Proven: Most mature and widely deployed bio-trigger device on the market today (~1,000 sensors deployed; millions of hours of continuous run-time in relevant operational environments). Affordable: Detector only triggers the collector when there is a high probability of a biological agent attack, significantly reducing cost of ownership

    Elastic Scattering

    Fluorescence Emission

    Laser Light

Particle Detection based on principal of Mie Scattering:

    Laser Excitation:

Aerosol particles pass through UV laser beam

Scattered light is collected by an optical detector

    Elastic Scattering light measures:

    Particle Concentration

determined from number of light pulses

    Particle size

Determined from amplitude of light pulses

    Fluorescence Emission:

Biological particles absorb the UV light and may

emit light at longer wavelengths than the excitation

    source.

Fluorescent light is collected by a 2nd optical

    detector

    Aerosol Sample Collection

  • Proprietary - Company Confidential ©2016 FLIR Systems Inc. Information and equipment described herein may require US Government authorization for export purposes. Diversion contrary to US law is prohibited. 11

    • Aerosol Collectors are designed to collect a physical sample of airborne particles

    • Particles impact onto a collection surface.

    • Particles are then extracted into a liquid to be analyzed by common bio-identification equipment such as PCR devices or Hand-Held Assay test strips.

    • Fido B2 only detects the presence of biological material – it does not identify the specific organism.

    What is Aerosol Sample Collection?

  • Proprietary - Company Confidential ©2016 FLIR Systems Inc. Information and equipment described herein may require US Government authorization for export purposes. Diversion contrary to US law is prohibited. 12

    • DFU = Dry Filter Unit

    • A DFU Filter is placed on top of the rotating fan. The collector acts as a vacuum to impact particles onto the filter surface.

    • Following sampling, the filter disk is removed and placed into a conical vial with liquid buffer for particle extraction.

    • Advantages compared to C100 Collector: • 75% smaller size of collection stack

    • Consumables are cheaper

    • No cleaning steps required

    DFU Collector - Dry Sampling

  • Proprietary - Company Confidential ©2016 FLIR Systems Inc. Information and equipment described herein may require US Government authorization for export purposes. Diversion contrary to US law is prohibited. 13

    • Wet sampling is based on rotating impactor technology

    • The rotating impactor is a disk with vanes which is rotated at high speed, both entraining air into the system and impacting particles onto the surface.

    • Following sampling, the rotating disk is manually rinsed to remove the collected particles from the surface into a small liquid volume (~ 5.0 mL in a sample vial).

    • Advantages compared to DFU Collector: • Allows for both Wet and Dry sampling methods

    • 50% higher air flow rate

    • Wet sampling eliminates one less particle extraction step

    How do nerve agents work?

AChE enzyme turnover number = 25,000 / second!!

    acetylcholinesterase

    acetylcholine

    • Organophosphate nerve agents attack a key neural enzyme called acetylcholinesterase (AChE)

    • Acetylcholine is a neurotransmitter that is used to transmit impulses to activate muscles

    • AChE enzyme removes acetylcholine to stop & control process, to reset muscle

  • Proprietary - Company Confidential ©2016 FLIR Systems Inc. Information and equipment described herein may require US Government authorization for export purposes. Diversion contrary to US law is prohibited. 29

    • Acetylcholine is a neurotransmitter that is used to transmit impulses to activate muscles

    • AChE enzyme removes acetylcholine to stop & control process, to reset muscle

    • Nerve agents inhibit/block AChE • AChE stops working causing a

buildup of acetylcholine, ultimately causing spasm of muscles, eventually leading to respiratory failure
