Introduction
GGIIGGAAlliittee IIII FFiibbrree SSoolluuttiioonnss :: GGIIGGAAbbiitt rreeaaddyy !!!!!!
Gigabit Ethernet is a reality : the IEEE 802.3z (Fibre part), voted in June 98 enables to run Gigabit rates over fibre.Since the emergence of this new application, its implementation on the market place is growing fast (see figures).
In the Gigabit world where evolving technologies can quickly make an entire network obsolete, choosing the right fibreinfrastructure is critical. Conventional wisdom has maintained for years that existing standard multimode fibres would provide virtually unlimi-ted bandwidth in LAN backbones to handle higher data speeds. However, recent tests have shown that traditional multimode backbones simply cannot deliver the requisite bandwidthbeyond 275 meters. The emergence of a new generation of transmitters, the Vertical Cavity Surface Emitting Laser (VCSEL), operating at850 nm imposes to choose a multimode fibre generation optimised for Laser injection, in order to deliver the requisitebandwidth on extended distances : GIGAlite II Fibre Solutions are a solution of choice, available in both 50/125 and62.5/125.Cabling Solutions Europe Fibre offer incorporates comprehensive solutions for Campus, Risers, Collapse backbone orFibre to the Workplace environment.

GGIIGGAAlliittee IIII FFiibbrree SSoolluuttiioonnss :: GGIIGGAAbbiitt rreeaaddyy !!!!!!
The association of a new generation of sources (VCSEL) and multimode fibre has considerably modified the notion ofbandwidth.
Till now, bandwidth measurement method was based on Over Fill Launch (OFL) conditions, typical of LEDs.
The VCSELs and LASERs underfill the fibre : less modes travelling into the fibre, should lead to a bandwidth increase, unless the index profile of the fibre is optimised in its very centre.
GIGAliteTM II Fibre Cables provide you with the peace of mind that the fibre has been controlledversus Restricted Mode Launch conditions.
Mode Conditioning patchcords
During Gigabit Ethernet developments, a signal distortion at 1300 nm (1000 base LX) was demonstrated with someworse case multimode fibres, presenting a physical defect at the very centre. Tests conducted showed that it was possible to avoid the signal distortion by using special patch-cords, called modeconditioning patch-cords, offsetting the launch of LASER into multimode fibre.
The fibre quality incorporated in GIGAliteTM II cables avoids to use those expensive special patchcords.

Choosing the right fibre
GGIIGGAAlliittee IIII FFiibbrree SSoolluuttiioonnss :: GGIIGGAAbbiitt rreeaaddyy !!!!!!
Multimode fibre technology helps to keep the overall cost of the network down, including active ports, but have distance limitations.Single Mode fibre technology provides a long term future-proofing but with higher initial investment compared toMultimode. Then the choice of a fibre type is a balance between the expected evolutivity of the network, theinvestment to be made, and the lengths of the channels.
Upgrade or extension of an existing network :If the distance of the channel is less or equal to 600 m, we recommend to use GIGAlite II 62.5 solutions, which arefully compatible with existing fibre base and enable a partial migration towards Gigabit era.If the distance of the channel is less or equal to 1000 m, we recommend to use GIGAlite II 50 solutions. If the distance of the channel is greater than 1000 m, then GIGAlite II Single mode solutions are mandatory.
Design of a new network :GIGAlite II 50 solutions may be considered when creating a new network, since they offer greater capability, providedthat the length of the channel is less than 1000 m.If the length is greater than 1000 m, then GIGAlite II Single Mode solutions are mandatory.
