Specifications

Polymer ConcreteThe pull/splice box ring and cover shall be constructed of polymer concrete consisting of sand and aggregate bound together with a polymer resin. Internal reinforcement may be provided by means of steel, fiberglass, or a combination of the two. The polymer concrete material is to have the following minimum allowable properties to be accepted for use:

Ultraviolet Exposure: Tested in accordance with ASTM G-53 using an U.V.A. 340 bulb.

Flammability Test: Tested in accordance with ASTM D-635.

Accelerated Service: Tested in accordance with Procedure E,ASTM D-756.

Water Absorption: Tested in accordance with Procedure E,ASTM D-570, Section 5,6,1, and 6.5.

Impact Resistance: 72 foot-pounds in accordance with ASTM D-2444 using a “C” Tup.

Compressive Strength: 11,000 psi tested in accordance with ASTM C-109 loaded at a rate between 28,000 lbs. to 41,000 lbs. per minute.

Flexural Strength: 7,500 psi tested in accordance with ASTM D-790.

Tensile Strength: 1,700 psi tested in accordance with ASTM C-496.

Skid Resistance: 0.50 coefficient of friction in accordance with ASTM C-1028.

Polymer Concrete and Fiberglass Polymer Concrete Products

HIGHLINE PRODUCTS underground enclosures are designed for use in pulling,splicing, and storing cable, as well as for access to underground power,communications,CATV, or water lines. They are an alternative to traditional concrete service boxesand vaults. Such products have been proven for over 30 years.

HIGHLINE PRODUCTS concrete-alternative underground enclosures come in two styles:1. Hybrid: polymer concrete cover and supporting ring for traffic bearing

molded to a fiberglass body for light weight.2. All polymer concrete.

Traditional concrete and polymer concrete both consist basically of sand, aggregate,and a bonding material. In traditional concrete, the bonding material is Portlandcement and water; in polymer concrete, it is resin epoxy.

The polymer concrete is also reinforced with fiberglass which results in a product that is three times the strength of traditional concrete with the additional advantage ofmuch less weight than traditional concrete.

Why choose concrete-alternative enclosures?1. Lightweight - as much as 90% lighter than concrete enclosures of

the same size.2. Cost effective - usually lower installed cost and low life cycle costs.3. Non-conductive and non-flammable - polymer concrete and fiberglass

do not conduct electricity, therefore affording a high degree of safety.4. Corrosion resistant - laughs at acids. oils, gasoline, weathering and

other forms of deterioration.5. Stable under freeze-thaw conditions.6. Capable of withstanding non-deliberate traffic of 20,000 pounds

and more.

The standard of the industry is Western Underground Committee Guide 3.6 (WUC3.6) and ANSI/SCTE 77 2007. These documents spell out the specifications concerningload ratings and other performance requirements of non-traditional concrete products.Enclosures made by HIGHLINE PRODUCTS meet these specifications.

They aremade of the highest quality fiberglass and polymer concrete. The base is fiberglass and the top ring and cover are polymer concrete. PolymerConcrete combines polyester resin with aggregate and is reinforced with fiberglass for exceptional strength and durability. These units are idealfor incidental traffic applications for Telecommunications, CATV and DOT(Department of Transportation) projects.
