What are A Levels?

A Level: These are academic

require the ability to do extended reading and writing. To study A Levels you will need

During this 30 credit course you will learn about careers and working in the music business and how to perform music in a variety of styles, compose your own music using our iMac computers and produce and record your own musical tracks.

BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Music Technology: During this 60 credit course you will cover 3 core units that include Music production techniques, sequencing systems and techniques and sound creation and manipulation before studying 3 further optional units that include learning about the different jobs in the music industry or investigation of an area of the music industry of your own choice.

BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Music Technology: This 120 credit course is designed for students who predominantly want to study Music technology. Students will study core subjects on the UK travel and tourism industry and will explore customer services in travel and tourism. Students will then go on to cover specialist units that include European holiday destinations and business and employability skills within the travel and tourism industry.

BTEC Level 3 Diploma & Extended Diploma in Travel & Tourism Core units include the travel and tourism industry, the business of travel and tourism and marketing travel and tourism products and services. Specialist units will cover retail and business travel operations and tourism development and all students will take part in work experience.

Note: Students would normally follow between three and four A levels or equivilent BTEC Applied A level subjects. Tradtional A levels and BTEC Applied A levels can be mixed.

Students who follow Level 2 BTEC courses will be required to choose three subjects and will also take up Functional Skills in Maths or English depending on their GCSE grade.

Year 12 -Traditional A Levels 5 GCSEs at C or above grade and Bs in the courses (including English & Maths) that students wish to study, in addition students would need to attain a GCSE average points score of 42. In subjects not taken at GCSE an associated GCSE will be taken into account.

BTEC grades will only be accepted as one grade within the 5 A*-C grades

For sciences a B must be obtained in both in the core & additional science

BTEC Applied A Levels 5 GCSEs at grade A-D. This can include BTEC courses previously followed (which will count as one grade) and in addition they must have at least a D grade in English.

Retakes can be taken in GCSE English & Maths for students who attain a D grade

courses students need to have 4 GCSE passes.Students will be required to take Numeracy and LIteracy Functional Skills as part of their course. Success at these courses at the end of Year 12 would enable students to move to Level 3.

External Students External students can access courses subject

Progression to Year 13 -A2 and Applied Level In order to continue into Year 13 students will need to have attained a minimum of 3 E’s at A Level and MERIT grades in the BTEC Applied A levels, however the following will be considered in each case:

Students that fail the requirement will be offered the option of being re-coursed on to BTEC Applied A levels and will return into Year 12.

Progression from Level 2 to Level 3 when in Year 12 Students can move from level 2 to level 3 by passing their functional skills courses in English and Maths and gaining a PASS or above within their chosen course. However, their overall Year 12 portfolio will be looked at on an individual basis
