M Y S T O R YMy name is Fatme Hawchar, I undertook studies at Lidcombe TAFE for four years. Graduating in 2010 with Diploma of Interior Design and Decoration, and soon after persisted on to study Advance Diploma in Interior Design & graduating in 2012.

As a creative mind, I thrive tothe best of my abilities and enjoy each project. As an individual, I secure the capacity of performing in a fast-paced environment and dealing with multiple tasks.

Great design ideas can be developed from the simplest of things and can come from anyone and anywhere. GOTYA 2012/2013 design competition was the highlight of 2013, winning three awards. Colour award 2012 from Colourways Company, DIA member award and was one of the three finalists in the DIA NSW/ACT graduate of the year award.

Sitting in the heart of Strathfieldcultural area, the project explores the idea of introducing new programs into the building, giving the shopping centre a more habitable atmosphere.

Strathfield shopping centre constitutes a hybrid, part retail shops, part entertainment area like the theatre and the cinema. Presented with a bold and strong concrete structural facade to the exterior & interior of the building.

The shopping centre consist of 4 levels, ground level is retail and hospitality, level one retail shops, level two cinema/retail and an outdoor seating area , level three has fine dine restaurants and theatre that looks out to the park. The interior of the shopping is an open space where all levels can be seen from any angle of the building. The theatre enables people to see inside it from the outside. The interior of the theatre is simple and sleek open space that looks out to the park.

I wanted the facade of the building to invite people in as it was the first thing that people see before coming into the shopping Centre interior. For me, the facade should feel welcom-ing, not disconnect the exterior from the interior, and look amazing. The facade is inspired by the weaving of a basket. The basket is always the centrepiece on the table, it always brings people together and gives a

welcoming feeling, which I wanted to achieve in my design. The exterior and interior structure of the building is made up of concrete suspended slab that are placed in a continues reputa-tion of pattern. The slabs are then supported with concrete column that go through them and in between each slab is a glass wall, which brings nature light into the building.

The plans are designed to open the space upbringing natural light into the building. Through the use of voids, & transparent materials, such as glass. Bridges are placed on every level for people to move through the levels as well as look out to different levels. Which highlights on the idea of connecting the shopping Centre together instead of isolating each level. I have also placed an entertainment area in the middle of ground level for small performances which can be seen from every level.

Scenography is the design of the space in which a performance takes place, entertaining the audience. As for my theatre design, I wanted people to experience the performance from the interior and exterior of the theatre.I designed my theatre around an idea of interacting the theatre with the open park in front of the shopping Centre. The theatre contains a flexible performance space, Studio Underground and is capable of seating 300+.

With a spacious foyer for people to wait in that looks out to the park area.I have used a palette of natural materials including black metal, timber and spotlights, giving the theatre a warmth and welcoming feeling.

St Margret’s project involves solving a major problem in the area which is the wind tunnel in the area, which is making the area an unpleasant place to be in, there is currently atmosphere or vibe in the area. The proposal was to cover the whole area with lovers that automatically change direction to suit the climate change .There is also a performance space in the middle

of an area that brings people into the area during the night and enlightens that whole area during the day and night. With nice trees that also broke out the wind from coming into the area.Another proposal to the area is bringing new restaurants into the area that suits the area. The restaurants are then, Japanese,Turkish,Indian, bakery, steak bar and chocolate restaurant.

Thai Me is all about connecting consumers back to the Thai markets in Thailand. Thai Me is based on using natural materials such as bamboo and water to capture the river market atmosphere.

In the central of the restaurant underneath tables is a creation of water and glass material creating the river sounds, observation and feelings which achieve the Thailand river market atmosphere. The restaurant ceiling is made out of hand woven bamboo, which is a major material used in Thailand especially in the river markets. The shape of the ceiling invites people into the restaurants as well as the bamboo material gives the restaurant a warm and welcoming feeling.

Thai Me interior is designed to bring people into the restaurant with the use of natural materials and warm colours. The opened frontage with the curved bamboo enriching a sense of welcoming to the people walking by. I have placed a mirror at the end of the restaurant to give a spacious feeling to the interior.I have designed the dining tables to look like the river boats on the market, using the curved edges and pine timber. The pink printed material and pink stools are all inspired by the beautiful pitaya fruit and pink roses that are all over the Thai river markets.

431 Liverpool street, Darlinghurst project is based on adaptive re-use & restoring a Heritage building in the city of kingscross. The task is to design a work/live solution for a client, with the idea of recycling and re-using materials. My client is a single woman, who has worked in graphic design for 5 years and wants to open her own Graphic design office with 2 employees and have her apartment on the top level of the office. The client mainly requires a building that provides lots of natural sunlight in the office & apartment.

I designed the ground, level 1 and the rooftop terrace around the idea of bringing as much natural lighting into the building and designing spacious interiors. Due to the heritage façade of the building I was not able to change or add any windows. Therefore, I decided to design an addition at the end of the building and connect it to the rooftop terrace making a mezzanine with a nice relaxing area. The addition was all glass walls with an outside stainless steel structure. This addition helped bring lots of natural light into the apartment.

The graphic design office on ground level consists of a storage wall, meeting area, office tables, kitchen and stairs to accesses the apartment level. The office has a featured keyboard storage wall near the entry of the office, for all the documents, print’s, etc. As for the apartment/Rooftop Terrace, it consists of living, kitchen, dining, one bedroom with ensuite, and a pool with outside sitting area. I have designed an open plan interior for the apartment level, because of its narrow long shape and so it will bring nature lighting throughout all the level with only a glass wall that divides the bedroom from the living and kitchen space.
