FF16 series are installed in vehicles where the distance between transmission and differential is so short thatinstallation of retarder between two drive-shafts is not possible. In most of cases such vehicles are rear engine busesand some tractor units.

These retarders are mounted directly on other driveline component which can be either transmission or differentialand must be prepared for retarder installation.

Torque of these retarders covers the range between 900 and 3300 Nm.

Stator is fixed to transmission or differential housing. Rotors are connected to the driveshaft and outlet flange oftransmission or input flange of differential.

Application

FT series is the safest braking solution for a tractor-semitrailer combination, because all braking power of theelectric retarder is applied at the end of the vehicle, holding the complete unit from the rear, instead of stoppingthe most of the weight from the front. In this way the dangerous “jackknife effect” is prevented.

The FT unit consist on a special drive axle with two pinions turned by the central crown. One set of coils at eachside of axle creates the braking force on the rotors fixed to the outlet flange on each pinion.

The FRENELSA axle with electric retarder replaces one of the dead axles in the semitrailer. It can be equippedwith both drum or disc system and is fitted with ABS sensors. It is available for single and double wheels withdifferent tracks.

The FRENELSA axle with electric retarder is approved by TÜV ESSEN (Germany) in accordance with thebraking standards of the Community Directive 71/320/CEE in its latest version.
