BAYBASI (which means “Residents by the Bay”) is aFoster City based not for profit public benefitmembership organization conducting Indian culturaland spiritual events since the year 2000. Baybasi iscommitted to promote India’s rich heritage in the BayArea and also functions as a common platform for itsmembers to share and enhance their customs andperforming arts.

Facilitate members and their friends and relatives andpublic at large to enhance their spiritual, cultural,social and artistic experiences through activitiesrelated to our rich cultural heritage.

Mission

To promote awareness of Indian ethnic identity and itscultural and spiritual heritage.

To organize cultural events involving (withoutlimitation) Bengali and other Indian traditional andcontemporary songs, drama and dances.

To plan and host periodic conferences and meetings toallow members to learn, network and shareexperiences for personal and career development.

To organize events to raise funds for the relief ofdistress and other charitable causes.

The Foster City Parks and Recreation Departmentalong with BAYBASI, Inc. invite the community to joinin the first annual celebration of Diwali, the Festival oflights on Saturday, November 14, 2015 from 12pm –6:30pm at the Leo Ryan Park Meadow and SeniorCenter Parking lot.

Diwali (also known as Deepavali, the "festival oflights") is an ancient festival celebrated in autumnevery year. Diwali is the biggest and the brightestfestival in India. The festival spiritually signifies thevictory of light over darkness. The festival preparationsand rituals typically extend over several days, but themain festival night of Diwali coincides with the darkest,new moon night. Before Diwali night, people clean,renovate and decorate their homes and offices. OnDiwali night, people dress up in new clothes or theirbest outfit, light up diyas (lamps and candles) insideand outside their home and regale with fireworks.Family members and close friends exchange gifts.

The Foster City Parks and Recreation Department andBAYBASI, Inc. are excited to be partnering to providethis free cultural community event!

Program activities include the following:• Food vendors offering tastes of India from a variety

of regions• Vendors offering different merchandise• Traditional Indian music and dance and Children

activities• Cultural shows• Decorative Electric lighting of the premise• Ceremonial lighting of the Diya

Event parking for Holi, Festival of Colors, will belocated:• South Recreation Center parking lot• Community Center/Library• City Hall

NOTE: Senior Wing parking lot will be CLOSED
