Join the top secret Towpath Explorers Club who have been investigating reports of bothersome Boggarts and Bogies

in Burnley since 1867.

Our intelligence suggests that every fifty years or so Boggarts and Bogies gather to create merriment and mischief and we believe that such a gathering will take place on the banks of the Leeds & Liverpool Canal at an area known

as the Weavers’ Triangle on 27th and 28th August 2016.

Towpath Explorers are calling on the fearless families of Burnley to tackle the towpath trail where they will encounter a host of strange characters and unravel a riddle or two to help us in the quest to unmask the Boggart. But, who are the true explorers and who are the mischief makers? Will you be

fooled or will you see through the trickery?

Get Involved! - To join the expedition and earn your place on the Explorers’ Roll of Honour, sign up at one of the Explorer basecamps:

The trail can be experienced in either direction on the towpath between Sandygate Square and Burnley Wharf. Everything you need to complete your

Folk Dance RemixedSat 1pm – 5pm - Festival Hub

Join incredible dance collective Folk Dance Remixed for a magical collision of traditional and Hip Hop dance and music: high-energy, with a unique remix of Maypole, Clogging, Ceilidh, Street, House and Breakdance with a hint of African & Bollywood - take part in Street Dance the Maypole and Ceilidh Jam workshops.

LIFEBOAT - the Slowest Ride on EarthSat 11am – 5pm - Festival Hub

Rock gently, turn slowly, help push the boat or play the drums: listen to the LIFE BOAT alphabet. Make conversation with fellow travellers and crew.

Sit with Death and stare at HOPE in the mirror... Then post your forecast for the future...

The ICD Life Boat is about slowness, kindness and gentleness. It is about getting your bearings whilst rocking gently and looking at the world from a slowly changing point of view.

Brightwork Tin Can Planting Workshop with Artist Anna ReadSat & Sun 11am – 5pm - BWB at Finsley Gate

Paint your tin can as bright as the beautiful paintings on canal boats, and then plant some of the gorgeous local plant life in your masterpiece, which you can then take home and admire.

Burnley Alliance Silver BandSat & Sun 11.30am – 12.10pm and 12.30 – 1.10pm - Sat - Festival Hub, Sun - Burnley Wharf

Burnley Alliance Silver Band is a thriving brass ensemble with a history of more than 60 years in the town. They play a wide assortment of modern and traditional music and their theme for 2016 is Movies and Musicals.

Cardboard Canal BoatSun 11am – 5pm - Festival Hub

This year we are gong to be building a life-sized cardboard canal boat, and we need your help! No carpentry skills required... Just imagination! We’re going to build, stick, cut out, paint, decorate (make a lot of mess) and play away the day!

Ragtag Circus Show & WorkshopSat & Sun 11am – 5pm - Burnley Wharf

Come and join the Ragtag Circus and have a go at juggling, plate spinning, unicycling, stilt-walking and much, much more! There will be all kinds of activities running throughout the weekend with demonstrations, Flow Arts workshops, How to Juggle in 30 minutes, giant bubble displays and the chance to take part in the Ragtag Circus Show.

Free Waterbus with Canal CruisesSat & Sun 11am – 5pm - Festival Hub & BWB at Finsley Gate

Take a free waterbus ride between the Festival Hub and Finsley Gate Wharf, going past Burnley Wharf. Ruby is a beautifully refurbished 12 seater, offering a fabulous way of taking in Burnley’s canalside heritage and moving stylishly between the Festival sites. Ride one way, stroll back the other! Based at Reedley Marina, Ruby is operated by Canal Cruises.
