HAPPY ADVENT!

It is hard to believe that this weekend we begin the Season of Advent. Christmas is less than a month away. If you are like me you may be thinking, “where has the year gone?” All around us the world is getting ready for Christmas. The malls are decorated and Santa has arrived as he listens patiently to anxious children. Television and newspapers are full of advertisements. As the song goes, ‘it is the most wonderful time of the year.’ This year, let’s together get ready spiritually for Christmas because despite what the world wants to tell us, Christmas is a religious holiday. We celebrate the birth of Jesus, the Son of God, our Savior. Here are some Advent suggestions for you and your family as you prepare for Christmas: Attend Mass every weekend and if possible, during the week; Go to the Sacrament of Reconciliation / Confession during Advent. (We have Confession every night at St. Lawrence at 6:15 p.m.); do not forget the important Holy Day of the Immaculate Conception on December 8th ; Prayer the Novena to Our Lady of Guadalupe from December 4th through the 12th at our 8 a.m. and 7 p.m. Masses; Join our Guadalupe Procession in Lindenwold and celebrate The Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe at Mass on December 11th or 12th; Make certain your Christmas decorations at home include a Manger scene with the Holy Family; attend our Parish Taizé Prayer Service on December 14 and the Choir Advent Concert on December 9, at 6:00 p.m.; and, help a needy family with gifts by taking one of the tags off our Advent Giving Trees. I also encourage you to pray the Christmas Novena Prayer every day. It is a prayer my parents taught me when I was young. Cut this prayer out and pray the prayer fifteen (15) times a day until Christmas. This beautiful prayer will help you increase your awareness of the real meaning of Christmas.

CHRISTMAS NOVENA PRAYER

Hail and blessed be the hour and moment in which the Son of God was born of the most pure Virgin Mary, at midnight, in Bethlehem, in the piercing cold. In that hour, I beseech Thee, O my God, to hear my prayer and grant my request, [mention your request]. I pray through the merits of Our Savior, Jesus Christ, and of His Blessed Mother. Amen.

Have a Blessed Advent, Father Vince

Feliz Adviento!

Substance abuse has risen to near epidemic proportions in our diocese and we know many people are affected by addiction both directly and indirectly. Parents, partners, and children all fall victim to the disease and the problems it creates in its wake. Catholic Charities is committed to trying to alleviate the suffering of both the addicted individual and their family. It is time for us to begin healing and helping those who are suffering from the pain and torment of addiction. If you or someone you know needs help, please contact the Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Camden at 1-855-546-7348.
