    Tue Textizz Printine Inpustry

Over the last ten years the Textile Industry hasexpanded tremendously in the volume and diversityofits production. Helped by the generous incentivesgranted by the Government the industry has nowdeveloped in many sectors far beyond its pioneer‘stages. Large and efficient units have been estab-

    * lished to produce varieties of baft, drills, poplins, shirtings, blankets, towels, printed fabrics, etc., insufficient quantities for the local market.

Difficulties are arising in the printing sector inparticular where existing installed capacity is morethan sufficient to meet the country’s requirements. The Government does not intend to encouragefurther wasteful investment in installing additionalprinting equipment. Government policy is tochannel new investment in the Textile Industry tothe spinning and weavingof items like grey cloth for‘printing, synthetic and blended fabrics and otherspecialised products for which local capacity isstillinadequate.

It is therefore notified for the information ofinvestors in particular and the public in general thatthe Government will not entertain any furtherapplications for pioneer certificates and/or approveduser concessions for the importation of grey baft orother raw materials for the production of printedfabrics. All outstanding applications for such con-cessions automatically lapse.
