This Thursday at 7pm we will watch our last video in theFr. Robert Barron series called Catholicism. If anyone would

like to borrow these DVDs for watching them at home eitheralone or with a group, you are most welcome to do so. You cantake one or two of them with you (there are 5 DVDs showing 10different episodes in total) & then bring them back when youre

done. Its a great thing to watch especially during this Year of

Faith.Along with the rest of the Church, I was quite surprised

by Pope Benedicts announcement of his retirement. While notunprecedented, it has happened only a handful of times at most inthe last 2000 years. I especially appreciated Benedict XVIs three

encyclicals and his books on the liturgy. He did much for theChurch in the 8 short years he was our Pontiff. We pray for himand for his successor. I thought that in light of how fascinating apapal election can be to both Catholics and non-Catholics alike, Iwould have a special presentation on this topic next Thursday,March 7th. It will be only one hour long from 7-8pm in the churchmeeting room. Please join us & learn about the historicalbackground to papal elections and the mystique of the conclave asit is today.

Some have asked if I am packing my bags for a trip toRome. All I can say is that Michaela & Abby would love to havefree run of the papal palace. And since Ive worn all black for 27

years, an all white outfit may be a nice change. I do know someLatin, and Id gladly give up my Ford Focus for a pope mobile. But I have yet to see my name under the list of papabili (an

Italian term to describe those who are likely or possible candidatesto be elected pope). It is probably just an oversight, though I do

remember the saying among those in the Vatican: He who entersthe conclave as pope, leaves it as a cardinal. So I dont want to

speculate on any possible future vocation. Lets just say that if Im

not around for Easter, Im probably chomping on some good

    cannoli in the Eternal City.
