THE RULERS OF THIS AGE Saint Paul speaks of both the “wisdom of this age” and the “rulers of this age.” He refers specifically to the so-called wise people and institutions responsible for unjustly condemning Jesus to death. As we mourn the human sin that killed Jesus two thousand years ago, we also consider contemporary errors and evils that wound the Body of Christ in our own age. We easily recognize the crimes of our leaders. Religious, corporate, and government institutions have inflicted suffering on countless innocent souls. The depth of our modern-day failures threatens us with despair. But Jesus calls us to renewed faithfulness and hope. Jesus tells us to “surpass” our leaders in righteousness. He instructs us to simplify our own lives: “Let your ‘Yes’ mean ‘Yes,’ and your ‘No’ mean ‘No.’ Anything more is from the evil one.” We are right to work against the sins of our leaders, but we must also scrutinize our own lives and make peace with our families, neighbors, and coworkers.
PASSING AWAY There is some urgency in Christ’s call to holiness. Everything in this age is passing away. Jesus’ call is timely and radical, pleading with us to drop other business and make reconciliation a priority. The Lord actually says to “leave your gift at the altar” and return to worship after making peace with the adversaries in our lives. Jesus is deadly serious about the need for reconciliation and righteousness, insisting that nothing—not even our eyes and arms—are worth more than love. All of today’s readings reflect on the deep connection between God’s law and healthy, peaceful love. As Saint Paul says in Romans 13:10, “love is the fulfillment of the law.” Here in the twenty-first century, we modern disciples of Christ can cultivate that mystery deep in our hearts, nurturing the tremendous twin gifts of God’s love and God’s law, offered to us freely to help us sustain a healthy and holy Body of Christ.

LOS GOBERNANTES DE ESTE TIEMPO San Pablo habla tanto de la “sabiduría de este tiempo” como de “aquellos que dominan al mundo”. Él se refiere específicamente a los sabios y las instituciones responsables de condenar injustamente a muerte a Jesús. Aunque nos lamentamos el pecado humano que mató a Jesús hace dos mil años, también consideramos errores y males actuales que hieren el cuerpo de Cristo en nuestro tiempo. Fácilmente reconocemos los crímenes de nuestros líderes. Religiosos, empresariales e instituciones gubernamentales han causado sufrimiento en incontables almas inocentes. La profundidad de nuestros fracasos actuales nos amenaza con el desánimo. Pero Jesús nos llama a una fidelidad y esperanza renovadas. Jesús nos dice que “superemos” a nuestros líderes en la justicia. Él nos instruye a simplificar nuestras propias vidas. “Deja que tu ‘sí’ sean un ‘sí’ y tu ‘no’ sea un ‘no’. Cualquier otra cosa viene del mal.” Estamos en lo correcto cuando trabajamos en contra de los pecados de nuestros líderes, pero también debemos analizar nuestras propias vidas y hacer las paces con nuestras familias, vecinos y compañeros de trabajo.
AL FALLECER Hay algo de urgencia en la invitación de Cristo a la santidad. Todo en este tiempo muere. La llamada de Jesús es oportuna y radical, una súplica para dejar otros asuntos y hacer una prioridad la reconciliación. El Señor de hecho dice “deja tu ofrenda en el altar” y regresa a la alabanza después de que hagas las paces con tus adversarios de nuestra vida. Jesús toma muy en serio la necesidad de reconciliación y justicia, insistiendo que nada, ni siquiera nuestros ojos y brazos, valen más que el amor. Todas las lecturas de hoy muestran la profunda conexión entre la ley de Dios y un amor saludable y pacífico. Como dice san Pablo en Romanos 13:10 “el amor es la plenitud de la ley”. Aquí en el siglo XXI, nosotros, discípulos modernos de Cristo podemos cultivar ese misterio profundo en nuestros corazones, alimentando los enormes dones gemelos del amor de Dios y su ley, ofrecida a nosotros libremente para ayudarnos a sostener un cuerpo de Cristo santo y saludable.

BAUTISMOS EN ÉPOCA DE PASCUA La Pascua es muy especial para la Iglesia es el Día Cincuenta de la época del Bautismo. La Cuaresma es el día cuarenta, el period de preparación. Estamos animando a las personas con niños recién nacidos para que participen en la épica de Pascua bautizando sus niños el Domingo de Pascua en vez del Domingo de Cuaresma.
Esto quiere decir, planear el bautizo antes el 23 de febrero o esperar hasta el 12 de abril. De éste modo, los recién nacidos serán un vívido recuerdo de la alegría de la vida que compartimos en nuestra humanidad que ha sido y continúa siendo benedecida por el amor de la Resurrección del Señor.
BAPTISM AT EASTER TIME Easter is the Church’s special FIFTY DAY season of Baptism. Lent is its forty day preparation period. We are asking those of you requesting baptism for your child to take part in the Easter season’s flavor by having your Baptisms during the Easter season and not during Lent.
Practically, this means planning your Baptism before February 23rd or after April 12th. In this way, your child will be a reminder of all the joyous life we share in our humanness that has been and continues to be graced by the Risen Lord’s love.

2020 Annual Catholic Appeal Come, follow me… and heal our world
This weekend, our parish will be conducting the Annual Catholic Appeal in‐pew Commitment Weekend. Please remember that the Annual Catholic Appeal is much different than a one‐time special collection. It is a pledge campaign where you can make a gift payable in installments.
The Annual Catholic Appeal theme, “Come, follow me… and heal our world,” was selected to remind us to continue to answer Jesus’ call to follow Him in thought, word and deed by providing the necessary contribution to fund ministries and services to share God’s love with many others in our parish and our archdiocese.
Each pledge makes a difference! All parishes communities participate in the campaign and the gifts of many enable our parishes, schools, and ministries to deliver needed services. Thank you for your prayerful consideration and generous response.

Esta es una campaña de compromisos para donar, a través de la cual usted puede hacer un donativo a pagar en plazos.
El tema de la Campaña Católica Anual, “Ven, sígueme... y sana nuestro mundo”, fue elegido para animarnos a responder al llamado que nos hace Jesús a seguirlo en pensamiento, palabra y acción, proporcionando la contribución necesaria para financiar los ministerios y servicios que nos ayudan a compartir el amor de Dios con muchos otros en nuestra parroquia y en nuestra arquidiócesis.

As Ash Wednesday approaches we remind you that ashes are to be a part of the Liturgical Prayer of that day, whether a Mass or a Prayer Service. The Scripture and Hymns, prayers and homily all set the context within which ashes are received by those intending to participate in the Lenten journey. Ashes are imposed after the homily of these services to those present for the services — only DURING the liturgy. May St. Mary’s begin Lent with resolve and wash away our ashes with Easter water in joy.

Adult Health Fair At Little Company of Mary Hospital
The Adult Health Fair will be held on Saturday,
April 4, 2020 from 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the
Link. This fair includes comprehensive labs, body
mass index, (BMI) and blood pressure checks, as
well as take‐home colon cancer screening kit.
Registration is required; call 708‐229‐5830 to
register by April 1, 2020. Appointment times for
admission will be given at time of registration. Fee

LIVING: WHEN A LOVED ONE HAS DIED Six consecutive Wednesdays, beginning March 25, 2020 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Support Groups formed specific to loss. Registration is required with a one‐time registration fee of $25. FOR CHILDREN:
THE HEART CONNECTION Eight Consecutive Mondays, beginning March 2, 2020 from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM. The program is for children ages 3 to 21 years old who have lost a loved one. Baptismal Preparation Sessions are held at 7:00 PM on the 4th Monday (English) or 1st Thursday (Spanish) of the month at the rectory. Parents and Godparents are expected to attend. Please register at the rectory.
MARRIAGES: Arrangements should be made at least 4 months in advance (prior to engaging hall) to allow for adequate preparation and instruction. Contact the Rectory for an appointment.
CONVERTS: RCIA The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults begins each year in September, reaches its climax with Baptism or reception into the Church at the Easter Vigil (Holy Saturday), and concludes on the fiftieth day of Easter, the feast of Pentecost.
COMMUNION CALLS: Please call the Rectory to arrange for Communion to be brought to the sick.
SICK CALLS: For confession, anointing of the sick or in any emergency, please call the Rectory.
NEW PARISHIONERS: Welcome to the Parish! Please come in and register any weekday at the Rectory.
BAUTISMOS: Inglés: 1er y 3er Domingo del mes a la 1:30 PM
Español: 2o Domingo a la 1:30 PM y 4o Sábado a la 11:30 AM
Las pláticas de preparación bautismal son el 1er jueves del mes (español) y el 4o lunes de cada mes (ingles), en la Rectoria. Papás y padrinos deben asistir. Favor de inscribirse en la Rectoría .
MATRIMONIOS: Los preparativos deberán hacerse al menos con 4 meses de anticipación (antes de contratar el salón de recepción) a modo de tener tiempo suficiente para la preparación e instrucción. Favor llamar a la Rectoría para una cita.
CONVERCIONES: RCIA El Rito de Iniciacion Cristiana para Adultos comienza cada año en septiembre, llega a su cúspide con el Bautismo o recepción en la Iglesia en la Vigilia Pascual (Sábado Santo), y termina en la fiesta de Pentecostes.
