Teacher’s Message
Our character focus for the months of January and February is COMMITMENT. People who practice commitment finish what they start; set realistic and achievable goals; know that successes take time and practice; and committed people do not give up because nothing
comes easily and there is no better feeling than accomplishing something that was challenging to accomplish.
Please remember to sign the weekly homework sheet and the reading log daily. In addition to the daily homework assigned, students are being assigned practice in their math flashcards. Practice should be done nightly and recorded on the weekly homework sheet. For those students who are on
their Subtraction Math Races, subtraction flash cards will begin to be sent home.
February is National Black History Month. During the course of the month we will read, focus, and learn about important Black Americans who have made a positive and significant impact on American history. Some people we will be learning this month include (but are not limited to) Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Rosa Parks, Ruby Bridges, and President Barack Obama. At the end of the month we will have a special writing project to reflect our learning.

This month we will be starting Unit 4 in Literacy and focusing on fiction texts where we focus on narrative texts and poetry. For math we will be focusing on Topics 11: Counting and Number Patterns to 100, 12: Tens and Ones, and 13: Comparing and Ordering Numbers to 100. In science we have begun learning about solids and liquids as part of our Physical Science unit.
Valentine’s DayValentine’s Day is on Monday, February 14th. At the end of the day students will have the opportunity to exchange their valentine’s if they choose to bring them to school. If students bring valentines to school, please provide enough for every child in the classroom. This is a day that we have wheel so treats need to be easily passed out and portable. Bite sized candies or small snacks are a great option. Because of our schedule on this day I am asking parents to refrain from bringing in cupcakes. A class list will be sent home shortly.
