Call to Prayer Weekly @ FCC
Can our passion for Jesus be reignited, marriages reunited, prodigals returned, souls salvaged, and national wounds healed? Yes! We must PRAY! Recently, women have been meeting and praying at the church weekly and great things are happening.
This time of prayer is done in small groups of two or three women. The meetings are done in the Moms in Prayer format to help guide the time to be very intentional and God-focused (you do not need to be a mom to join). If you’re interested in getting involved or learning more, call Kathy Hooks at 404-660-2374.
Keenagers’ Share the Love Luncheon Thursday, February 16th @ Noon
On February 16th, at noon, the Keenagers will gather for a “Share the Love Luncheon.” This will be a time of fellowship in a valentine setting. Each member is asked to bring a Valentine Card appropriate for a shut in or nursing home resident. The name of a person will be provided at the luncheon. In addition, Margo Shepherd will be sharing a few moments from her recent love trip to Haiti.
Keenagers offers fellowship, fun and food to those 55 and over. You’re invited to join us the 3rd Thursday of each month! RSVP to Marjorie Aldridge at [email protected].
Preaching through Acts Sunday Mornings @ 9 AM & 11 AM
For the next quarter (approximately 13 weeks), I will be preaching from the book of Acts on Sunday mornings. We may take a week or two off for special Sundays, but then we will return. Acts was written by a physician and historian named Luke, a sometime companion of the Apostle Paul. In Acts we see the mission and vision of the earliest Christian community in practice. This is what the church is. This is what the church does. If you want to understand church (which, if you are a Christian, means if you want to understand your own life) then join us as we dig around in Acts. Together we will see how the church moves, how the church grows, how church is empowered, what God accomplishes through His church. And along the way we will learn what God wants for and from FCC -- you and me.
The book of Acts is the story of the first Christians, those who carried on the mission and ministry of Jesus after his death, burial, resurrection and ascension. Because it is a narrative, it will be important that you read through the book of Acts as we study it together on Sundays. That won’t be hard because there is not a boring page in the entire book. That’s a promise, it is an amazing story with all sorts of surprises, but make no mistake; it is history. It is the serious work of a careful historian who did his research and who has given us a clear picture of the first followers of Jesus.
I’ll leave you with a comment on the book of Acts by one of my favorite writers and clearly the most influential Biblical scholar alive, N.T. Wright:
“The book of Acts… is full of the energy and excitement of the early Christians as they found God doing new things all over the place and learned to take the good news of Jesus around the world. It’s also full of the puzzles and problems that churches faced
then and face today – crises over leadership, money, ethnic divisions, theology and ethics, not to mention serious clashes with political and religious authorities. It’s comforting to know that ‘normal church life’, even in the time of the first apostles, was
neither trouble-free nor plain sailing, just as it’s encouraging to know that even in the midst of all their difficulties the early church was able to take the gospel forward in such dynamic ways. Actually, ‘plain sailing’ reminds us that this is the book where more
journeys take place, including several across the sea, than anywhere else in the Bible – with the last journey, in particular, includ-ing a terrific storm and a dramatic shipwreck. There isn’t a dull page in Acts. But, equally importantly, the whole book reminds us that whatever ‘journey’ we are making, in our own lives, our spirituality, our following of Jesus, and our work for his kingdom, his
spirit will guide us too, and make us fruitful in his service.”

Life Groups have Launched! Meeting in a neighborhood near you (<— I made up this byline...good, bad?)
Reports from the Life Groups that launched this past month are exciting! New friendships are developing and a renewed sense of excitement & commitment to Christ is growing in FCC! The launches have been staggered, for various reasons (training, schedules, etc.), but the bulk of them are underway.
ONE THING TO KNOW ABOUT LIFE GROUPS is that they are highly relational small groups of 4-12 people that meet weekly in people’s homes. They are not primarily Bible studies, but the discussions are centered around a Bible passage that is read each week. Life groups are about allowing God to use us to create authentic Christian community where individuals care for each other and align themselves with the mission of His church. If you participate in a Life Group, you will begin to see the changes in your life you long for.
DON’T SWEAT IT if “your groups meets when you can’t.” Sometimes it is work that gets in the way. Sometimes it is a prior commitment. In any event, don’t fret; just notify us at the church office about your conflict and we will do our best to get you into a group that meets when you can meet.
306 Underground Sunday Evenings from 5:30 – 7:30 PM
306 Underground is for all middle and high schoolers. Dinner is provided from 5:30 - 6 PM. This is a great place to play games, make new friends, hang out with awesome adult leaders, and talk about Jesus! I would love to see you there! We will continue a series called, “Life on Mission.” We’re discovering the reason why we are here on earth, what our purpose is, and how we should live our life. It’s tough to live your life on a mission when you don’t know what the mission actually is. Once we find out what the mission is for our life, we will be forever changed.
Youth Ministry Super Bowl Party Sunday, February 5th @ 6 PM
We’ll be having a Super Bowl Party on February 5th, starting at 6:00 PM! The game will be played on the large projector in the 306 room! We’ll have dinner, snacks, games, comfortable couches, and tons of fun. This is the perfect time to invite a friend as we watch our Atlanta Falcons play in the Super Bowl!

Alpha Ministry Wednesday, March 1st @ 10 AM
Alpha Ministry will meet on Wednesday, March 1st at 10 AM in the Joyful Giver’s classroom. Anyone who wishes to hear Dick Ingle's report on his trip to India is welcome to attend.
A monetary donation for the comic book style printing of "The Life of Christ Visualized" will be collected. This project involves getting the book published in as many languages possible to distribute to children in various countries. LATM is doing the publishing and Lynnell, daughter of Helen Sizemore, is heading up the project.
