FEBRUARY 4, 2018

“Praise the LORD, for he is good; sing praise to our God, for he is gracious; it is fitting to praise him.

The LORD rebuilds Jerusalem; the dispersed of Israel he gathers. He heals the brokenhearted

and binds up their wounds. He tells the number of the stars; he calls each by name” Psalm 147 Dear Parishioners and Friends,

Last Wednesday we gathered at Sacred Heart Cathedral with Bishop Matano in recognition of Catholic Schools week. Students from all of our area Catholic schools gathered together for a wonderful liturgy and celebration.

St. Rita Parish has been blessed to have a school that has been in existence since the early days of the Parish founding. More than a few parents who attended the school themselves as children, now (or already have sent) their own children to St. Rita School and continue that tradition.

This weekend we welcome our Scouts at the 9:00am mass for our annual recognition of our Scouting troop.

Next weekend we will recognize our High School Seniors who received the “Hands of Christ” award for their service to our St. Rita Parish and School and wider community. Many are parishioners who have been baptized here!

Our school, faith formation, scouting, music and sports programs would not be possible without the generosity and support of many Parishioners and parents. Thank you!

Finally, let us keep everyone who works at Xerox in Webster in our prayers.

May God bless you! Fr. Gonyo

Boy Scouting Celebrates Scout Sunday & Awards Religious Emblems to St. Rita Scouts

Scouting has a tremendous potential for developing Christian leadership. It offers a unique opportunity for young people to grow in faith, life, and leadership. The Boy Scouts of America have consistently stressed the necessity of the spiritual life for youth and the importance of dependence on God.

Youth ministry today demands a total commitment to youth -- a commitment that must be totally Christ leading. Scouting, with its many programs and activities, can bring a Scout to a greater knowledge of God through nature and comradeship.

Through the Religious Emblems program of the Catholic Committee on Scouting, a boy can learn how to put his faith and his Scouting together in an integrated learning experience. By working on the religious emblem for his age, a boy reinforces what he learns in the parish faith formation program.

St. Rita Pack 163 is proud to have four scouts earn the Light of Christ award. Each Scout will be honored at a special Diocesan Recognition Ceremony at Sacred Heart Cathedral.

Light of Christ

The Light of Christ program’s purpose is to help the Cub Scout develop a personal relationship with Jesus. With the parent’s active assistance and participation in this program, the Cub comes to see Jesus as a real person and his friend. Join us in congratulating this year’s recipients: Cooper Binazeski, Ben Dodds, Colin Greene, and Jack Mackenzie.

ST. RITA SCHOOL

Spirit of Learning Corner

CELEBRATING CATHOLIC SCHOOLS WEEK!

There was a full week of fun and activities as students, faculty, and staff celebrated Catholic Schools Week. The school theme this month was Kindness. Monday students began working on a Kindness chain that grew throughout the week. Tuesday they worked on Kindness quilts with their Buddy classes. Wednesday students were encouraged to participate in Acts of Kindness for their Buddy class. And Friday they brought in cans of soup for the Webster Soup Cupboard.

+ Monday, students began their week with an Opening

Prayer service and by showing Kindness from Head to Toe. Students were decked out in their Blue and Gold spirit wear, crazy socks and hats, and cozy slippers.

+ Tuesday, students, their families, and parishioners

participated in a Catholic Schools Week Mass. It was a beautiful celebration of our gift of faith.

+ Wednesday, Grades 1-5 had representatives chosen

to attend the Catholic Schools Week Mass presided by Bishop Matano at Sacred Heart Cathedral. In addition to the classroom representatives, five Fifth Grade choir students were selected to sing in a Catholic Schools choir with other students from our diocese.

+ Wednesday’s theme of “Kindness Ties us Together”

brought in some very unique neck ties. Students and staff all had fun sharing their special ties.

+ STRIKE! Thursday was one of the most anticipated

events by students – bowling at AMF Empire Lanes. Everyone in Kindergarten through Fifth Grade enjoyed knocking down tons of pins.

+ Thursday was also Wacky Day. Students dressed in

their wackiest outfits and many had equally wacky hairstyles to match. Our God Drops really have a great sense of crazy fashion!

+ Friday, Catholic Schools Week 2018 concluded with a

Closing Prayer Service led by students and staff. Students and staff also wore jerseys and other accessories from their favorite sports team.

DID YOU KNOW?

We offer Children’s Liturgy of the Word each week at the 9:00am Mass. Before the readings, the children are given a

blessing by Father or the Deacon and dismissed to Room 1 with a catechist, where they share the readings from the Children’s Lectionary.

We also offer a Family Mass on the First Sunday of each month at 9:00am mass. Our young people stay in church where the homily will be geared toward them, adults can appreciate this as well! So bring all the kids!
