St. Patrick’s of Tekamah:
“But I say to you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you.” ~ MATTHEW 5:44 ~
Love your enemies, easier said than done, no doubt. But, remember, the foundation of stewardship is prayer. When we are in close communication with God, it opens our heart and turns our attention away from “me” and moves it towards God and others. It allows us to have a little more empathy for “our enemy”. When we pray for others, even “our enemies”, maybe it softens their hearts as well.
Children’s good deed: “I emptied the trash after Religious Ed; I practiced my prayers; I helped my friend when she was sad.”

Tend thy sick ones, O Lord Jesus. Rest thy weary ones. Bless thy dying ones. Soothe thy suffering ones. Pity thy afflicted ones. Shield thy joyous ones. And all for thy love’s sake. (St. Augustine) We pray for our beloved deceased. May they rest in peace and may God comfort those who mourn.

May you be strengthened with power through God’s Spirit in your inner
self. May Christ dwell in your hearts through faith; so that you, rooted and grounded in love, may have strength to comprehend with all the holy ones what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ that surpasses all knowledge, so that you may be filled with all the fullness of God. Now to God, who by the power at work within us is able to accomplish far more than all we ask or imagine, be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen

From Fr. Kevin… On this 7
th and last Sunday in ordinary time all three
of our readings reference the call to holiness. In
today’s first reading from Leviticus 19 the Lord
commands that the community of Israel be holy
because their God is holy. Underlying all the
commandments is the core belief that human
persons are called to be holy because they belong
to God. As well as relating to God with awe and
reverence, God’s holy people are also to love their
neighbors as they love themselves. In the second
reading from 1 Corinthians, St. Paul tells the
Corinthians to see themselves as a living temple.
God’s own Spirit has made a home within them,
enlivening, empowering, and uniting the divided
community. Similar to the Jerusalem temple as a
holy place, the Christians in Corinth are a holy
people, set apart as God’s dwelling place. In the
Gospel of St. Matthew Jesus continues his ‘Sermon
on the Mount”. He offers his own interpretation on
how to live faithfully to God—how to be holy! There
is to be no retaliation when one is mistreated in any
way. Rather, we are to respond to insults with
nonviolence; when paying debts, we are to give back
more than is required. We are to show love equally
for enemies and neighbors. In acting toward others
as our heavenly Father acts, we will become perfect
(teleios), attaining completeness. Peace, Fr. Kevin - Archbishop’s Annual Appeal –
St. Patrick - (125.9%)!! Holy Family (100.6%)!! Thank you for your very generous contributions!
FAITH FACTS Love your enemies
( MATTHEW 5:44 )
This is probably the most challenging thing Jesus demands of his followers and runs against everything they were accustomed to. In the biblical world, love and hate, friends and enemies, were strict opposites. Love was the fierce attachment to one’s group, especially the family. Hate was the detachment or alienation from one’s group. These attitudes were matched by actions. Love disposed one to do good for one’s group, hatred prompted evil. A Greek proverb summed up the result: “Help a friend, harm an enemy.” Nothing illustrates the demands of conversion to Jesus’ values more strongly than this summons to love the persecutors whom you have every reason to hate.
The Lighter Side
Q. What do you get when you throw a lot of books into the ocean? A. A title wave.
Q. Why did the man take his clock to the vet?
A. Because it had ticks
Q. What only starts to work after it’s fired? A. A rocket.
