First Reading: Genesis 9:8-15 God made a promise to Noah that he would never again devastate the entire planet with a flood. He also told Noah that the symbol of this promise would be a rainbow in the clouds.

Second Reading: 1 Peter 3:18-22 This letter from Peter reminds all people that Christ died for us so that we might be led to God. We have been saved by our baptism; not a physical cleansing, but a promise to continually strive to obey God.

Gospel: Mark 1:12-15 Mark briefly tells of Jesus’ stay in the desert, where he was tested by Satan. He did not give in to temptation, but reappeared in Galilee to proclaim the good news.

Lent 2015

Lenten Confessions

“Peace be with you!” With these words, the Risen Lord greeted his frightened Apostles in the Upper Room on the day of his Resurrection. Christ repeated the words, “Peace be with you.” Then he added, “Receive the Holy Spirit. Whose sins you forgive are forgiven them” (John 20:19-23). What an extraordinary gift – the gift of divine forgiveness! This year, prepare for Easter by receiving the Sacrament of Reconciliation. During Lent, every Catholic Church in the Archdiocese of Hartford will be open on Mondays from 6:00 – 7:00 pm for Lenten Confession. For more information, visit: Light4you.info.

Sunday February 22nd

On this First Sunday of Lent, we hear a short reading from the Gospel of Saint Mark, which gives a brief account of Jesus’ forty days in the desert. Within this account is an important reminder for us as we begin this Lenten Season. Satan tries to tempt Jesus in the desert and God’s angels administered to Him during the forty days. During Lent, we seek to strengthen our resolve to resist temptation just like Jesus did. However, God does not ex-pect us to do this on our own. God helps us, giving us the Holy Spirit in Baptism. God also gives us the community of the Church to help us. We need to remember to call on the name of Jesus to free us from temptation and sin - and He will always be there to save us!

Contact the Faith Formation Office with any questions at 860-521-2904 or email at [email protected].

“Your ways, O LORD, make known to me; teach me Your paths, Guide me in Your truth and teach me, for You are God my Savior.”

STATIONS OF THE CROSS A special way to be prayerful during Lent is to “walk” with Jesus on the road to Calvary through the Stations of the Cross. Lord Jesus, You call us to repent

and to realize that the Kingdom of God is at hand. You teach us to do

God’s will and invite us to follow You on the way to the Cross. We ask You, Lord, to

renew us in the grace of our Baptism. Transform our

thoughts, words, and deeds so that, with Your help, we will turn away from sin and live in the joy of the

Gospel. We ask this in Your Holy Name, Amen.

Lent is a special time to reflect on our rela-tionship with Jesus - a time to be more prayerful and generous to those in need. One way that we can help others is by filling our Rice Bowls, which each student re-

ceived at class. All donations are sent to Catholic Relief Services, which helps the poor and needy. Please return your filled “bowl” by March 25th.

Here are some good deeds done by our students who shared these Gifts of Love on their Offertory Envelopes. May God bless our children for their generous hearts! Helped my friend when he was crying; Donated money to someone who is homeless; Tied Sophie’s shoes; Brought my dog to a nursing home; Helped with cooking; Made cards for St. Valentine’s Day; Helped Mom with the dishes.
