While he was still speaking, a cloud came and cast a shadow over
them, and they became frightened when they entered the cloud.
Then from the cloud came a voice that said, "This is my chosen
Son; listen to him." - Lk 9:34-35

Mass Intentions
Year of Mercy & Care
of Our Common Home
(Laudato Si) Our insert this
week focuses on consumption.
We all know we could do with
less; less “things”, less clothes,
less paper, less…. But we need
(want ?) all of that. I recently had the experience of a friend
of mine showing me her adult coloring side. Her work was
simply beautiful. I walked away saying that would be fun
but I would need more art supplies and I could stop at Wal-
Mart and ...before I caught myself. Many times less means
more in the end. I can do just as well with the supplies I
have.
What do I value most?
How do I get it or increase it without consuming more
than my share?
Am I selfish? What am I willing to do about that?
Strengthen the faith in your family! It is so
important for every one of us to understand what the family
is called to be. St Francis will offer a group gathering of
couples to read and reflect on Love Is Our Mission: The
Family Fully Alive so that we can have stronger, happier
families. It is not necessary to have attended previous ses-
sions. The Love is Our Mission program will be facilitated
by Jacob and Kate Pruemer, and will continue to meet on
Sunday evenings during Lent from 6:30-7:30 PM. The next
session is February 21st in the Museum Meeting Room.
Please join us!

From Father Ed
THANKS to all of those who attended our Bible Study ses-
sion last week and our first Lenten Talk this past Wednes-
day. It is wonderful to celebrate here with so much positive
energy and enthusiasm; please keep it up during the coming
weeks. This coming Wednesday’s Talk is entitled “To
Walk Humbly with God” and it focuses on the Good Sa-
maritan story from Luke’s Gospel. We start at 7:20 pm and
end by 8:20 pm — hope to see YOU there.
For those of you who are unable to attend on Wednesday
nights, I am also preaching a Parish Mission for St. Isidore
the Farmer Church in Bishop Creek next month. The 3-day
Mission begins on Sunday, March 13th, at 4:00 pm with
Benediction and then continues on Monday the 14th at
7:00 pm with Reconciliation and concludes on Tuesday,
March 15th, with Eucharist, also at 7:00 pm. The Talks that
I am giving in Bishop are different from the ones here in
T-Town.
Attention Young Adults (20-40 year olds)! Don’t forget
that we are gathering each week during Lent on Friday
nights. We have Stations of the Cross at 7:00 pm, and then
we gather in the Museum Dining Room afterward for a lit-
tle faith sharing. I’d love to see YOU here.
Speaking of “thanks,” I also want to thank Theresa Draper
for her years of service here at St. Francis. Theresa recently
took on a full time job, and we’re going to really miss her
presence around here. Of course she knows that she is al-
ways welcome to share her great musical talent with us at
the piano, and I am sure that she will find her way there
from time to time.
Please welcome back home Father Mario DiCicco, OFM
next weekend (February 27-28). As we said last week,
Father Mario will be preaching on the mission of the Fran-
ciscan Order and seeking our financial support. And it’s
also a bit of a “homecoming” for Father Mario who went to
school here in Teutopolis back in the days when St. Joseph
Seminary was open. He was ordained in 1959 and has been
a Franciscan friar for 63 years, but he left behind part of his
heart here in T-Town and wants to see if he can find it
again! Welcome Home, Father Mario!
Paz y Bien,
FrEd RCIA enters the next stage of the process with the candi-
dates seriously preparing, during Lent, for their profession
of faith. This week’s session will be on the two recent pro-
nouncements by Pope Francis: Care for Our Common
Home and the Year of Mercy. Next week’s session will be:
Woman at the Well.
A Eucharistic Day of Prayer will be held at St.
Aloysius Church today after the 8 am Mass and continue
throughout the day with a closing Benediction at 6:30 pm.
Everyone is welcome.

GRADE SCHOOL—Congratulations to the Grade 2 chil-
dren who celebrated their First Reconciliation with the Lord
on Saturday. May you continue to grow in friendship with
Jesus daily, asking him to help you make good choices and
to prepare for His personal visit with you when you receive
Him on your First Holy Communion day.
Grade 3S and 4R children will be gathering in the chapel
on Monday morning, February 22, to prepare to receive the
sacrament of Reconciliation as part of their Lenten Penance
practices. Both Gr. 3D and 3K will gather in room 3D for
the Lenten video for the 1st and 2nd week of Lent. Grade 4
Schu, Sco, and Scha will assemble in the cafeteria for the
Lenten videos also.
Children in all grades received their Lenten mission boxes
last week. Parents can help the children contribute small
amounts in their boxes by giving up the cost of a small treat
or by rewarding the child for helping around the house or in
the field. The amount collected during Lent will go to the
Catholic Relief Organization to help the poorest children
throughout the world who are victims of flood or are refu-
gees escaping cruel living conditions. Parents, help the
children live out the four practices of Lent—
prayer...share…care…dare to do penance.
KDGN./PRE- Religion class for these children takes
place every Sunday during the l0:30 Mass in the Museum
Dining Room.
JUNIOR HIGH. Grade 8 will be studying Chapter 5-
Sex, Love, and Chastity. Grade 7 will be studying

sented to the parish in church on Friday, March 11,

nights before class from 6:30 to 7:15 at the Junior
High Building on March 2 and March 9 with the dress re-
hearsal at church on Friday, from 5:00 to 7:00.
Participants may choose to be a character of the passion of
Jesus, a reader, prayer leader, song leader. Those
who showed interest received a letter to take home to their
parents. All signed responses must be in by this
Wednesday, February 24. If parents have questions, please
call 857-6477. Thanks for encouraging your youth

reply, "Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to
one of the least brothers of mine, you did it to me." (Mt

Volunteer Opportunity - At St. Anthony’s Memo-
rial Hospital, Catholic patients are able to receive Com-
munion daily because of the devoted service of nearly thirty
volunteers. Each of these volunteers typically give out
Communion one or two days a month — a process that nor-
mally takes a little over an hour. At this time, we are espe-
cially in need of volunteers who would be able to offer
Communions one weekend day a month. Hospital Orienta-
tion, an annual flu shot and some additional training are
required. Could Christ be calling you to this ministry?
Please contact Liz Schmidt, Spiritual Care Minister at
HSHS St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital for further infor-
mation. The number is 217-347-3685. Or, contact Liz by

Little Transfigurations Master, it is good that we are here. Luke 9:33
Perhaps each one of us has encountered periods in our lives
when we thought we could not go on. There was too much
suffering, too much stress. We just felt that we could not
handle it.
In today’s gospel, the disciples of Jesus would soon
undergo such a period. Jesus was about to enter Jerusalem
to suffer and die. They would be overwhelmed and grief-
stricken.
In anticipation of this tragedy, Peter, James and
John were given a special grace at the transfiguration. The
disciples were ecstatic as “they saw his glory.” They would
need this grace to bolster them in the days ahead.
In the midst of your trials, are there little signs that
God is still with you? There are little rays of light even in
the darkest moments of our lives. These little transfigura-
tions tell us that God has not abandoned us.
LIVING FAITH
