Andrew & Amanda Todd’s 1914 New Way 6 HP Model H Type C
Standard Engine
.
This engine is rated at 6 horsepower. Classified as a Model H, Type C. Man-
ufactured in Lansing, Michigan in 1914.
This is the largest size of single cylinder engine manufactured by The New Way
Motor Company. It is advertised as their Industrial Type Engine.
This particular engine spent all its working life mounted on a concrete slab in a
small shed driving a saw bench for cutting firewood in the Hahndorf area.
It was restored by its previous owner, I have only tidied it up and made a few
adjustments.
This Model of New Way is considered rare, even in the United States.
Our first showing of the New Way stationary engine was at the Smelter's
Picnic last year. We also displayed & ran this engine at the Melrose &
Jamestown Shows.

Hello members and welcome to a new club year. . Firstly I hope everyone had a very enjoyable Christmas
and safe and exciting new years . There’s a few points we ALL need to think about, firstly the club needs a
Secretary, we cannot operate with out this position filled ,its not hard ,also we need members to
help with the magazine from articles to helping print and compile, it is very unfair to expect Colin and a
small number to do all the work, if this is not rectified we may look at not having the Crank talk every
month; and if that happens we will not be accepting any whinging about it, so please help. The new idea
of meeting at the club every 2nd Saturday or Sunday for a club event. Again all members are asked to
come up with Ideas. In the new year we will be looking to update the club constitution, and there is a
large majority in favour of having a by –law that requires a number of events be attended by ALL members
to be eligible for club registration, “no go no cheap rego”. So that’s my gripes out of the way. On an
unhappy note is we wish Mick Cliff and Laurie Joyce a speedy recovery to good health as both have
recently spent some time in hospital, until next time safe motoring Paul Collins

Oil Can Harry
Sarah was in the fertilized egg business. She had several hundred young pullets and ten roosters to
fertilize the eggs.
She kept records and any rooster not performing went into the soup pot and was replaced.
This took a lot of time, so she bought some tiny bells and attached them to her roosters. Each bell had a
different tone, so she could tell from a distance which rooster was performing. Now, she could sit on the
porch and fill out an efficiency report by just listening to the bells.
Sarah's favourite rooster, old Butch, was a very fine specimen but, this morning she noticed old Butch's
bell hadn't rung at all! When she went to investigate, she saw the other roosters were busy chasing pul-
lets, bells-a-ringing, but the pullets hearing the roosters coming, would run for cover.
To Sarah's amazement, old Butch had his bell in his beak, so it couldn't ring. He'd sneak up on a pullet,
do his job, and walk on to the next one.
Sarah was so proud of old Butch, she entered him in a Show and he became an overnight sensation
among the judges.
The result was the judges not only awarded old Butch the "No Bell Peace Prize" they also awarded him
the "Pullet surprise" as well.
Clearly old Butch was a politician in the making. Who else but a politician could figure out
how to win two of the most coveted awards on our planet by being the best at sneaking up
on the unsuspecting populace, and having their way with them when they weren't paying
attention?
Vote carefully in the next election. You can't always hear the bell.
Thank you to oil can Harry.

Pt Pirie Christmas Pageant
Credit must be given to our city's pageant organisers for the spectacle presented on
December 7th. The large crowd that lined the parades route would have been delighted
with the procession of floats, vehicles & an abundance of children participating. I have
driven in & been a participant in many pageants since PADARC’s involvement and can’t
remember a crowd anywhere near that of the assembled spectators. Just after the
commencement of the pageant Wayne Ellard experienced a problem with his Land Rover,
which resulted in him withdrawing from the precession. Barry Treloar again did us proud
with his float depicting an elephant being ridden by Father Christmas, and towed by his
Toyota Land cruiser.
The twilight pageant is certainly a winner. The pleasant balmy evening that followed the
event enticed a huge audience to stay & enjoy the entertainment & sample the large varie-
ty of food & goodies at the fair in Memorial Park.
After the pageant Wayne discovered the Rovers problem was simply a blocked fuel filter.
Those who attended were Barry Treloar Float & Toyota Land cruiser Touring, Steve Hyde
driving one of Barry’s Mercedes, Jamie Ireland VH Holden , Lynn Daws Harry Potter

PADARC Run to JAMESTOWN
PADARC RUN TO JAMESTOWN
It was a last minute dash to decide where to go. Jamestown, but we need to get more organised to be
able to see more of what is available in the town we visit. Although time today, was of the essence, as we
had to travel back in time for lunch by 12.30pm, not meander at leisure to enjoy Jamestown.
We all woke to a gorgeous, sunny day ready to travel to Jamestown; the drive is normally lovely and
green in the winter, today is a mighty hot 35⁰. We made a pit stop at the Belalie Creek; which was very
picturesque and had ducks on the water and came up to us, very friendly, to see if we had anything to
share. We managed to get a group photo, too. Thank you for those who rallied for it. The ladies may
have enjoyed Sharlene’s quilting and sewing machine place. There was the Railway Station Museum,
Bundaleer Channel, Jamestown Hotel if we had more time available. On previous occasions we visited a
member’s shed. A new cafe opened, called the Ek-Wi-Tee Café, they were very obliging and hospitable,
although not enough room for 25 guests, plus guests already enjoying their hospitality. The coffee was
great. We were split up and some members went to the Tucker-on-AyrCafé, which I am told the coffee
was great there as well. There wasn’t any mention of yummy cakes, I am sure they were a couple snuck in
before lunch! Soon we were on the road again, back for a beautiful lunch back at our Clubhouse pre-
pared by Jo O’Connell and her happy band of workers in the kitchen.
Jo wishes to pass on a big Thank You, to member’s who dropped off their salad/sweet before the run;
and for member’s who came to the Club on Friday/Saturday morning to help get the tables and hall deco-
rated with the Christmas theme. Men were on duty after lunch to work in the kitchen, cleaning and
washing up. Much appreciated for any one else who helped with the luncheon and day activities. Thank
you.
Thank you must also go to Jo and John for organising a couple of guesses, “how many sweets in the jar”
competitions. Thank you, to those who came along with me to Jamestown, it was a good morning out and
most enjoyable to have your company.

JOHN DEERE 1940
MODEL 101
Unconventional tractors were common in John Deere's engineering
offices. One of the company's more creative engineers, Theo Brown,
recognized that the general-purpose tractors intended for cultivating
single rows had a common fault. The power plant of the tractors was
between the operator and the row to be cultivated. In 1941, he
introduced a new concept at John Deere - the Full Vision tractor. The
rarest tractor in the collection, though, is the John Deere N101. Five
were built in the early 1940s. They were loaned out to farmers who
tested the tractors for a month and suggested improvements. When
a driver said the regular seat did not give enough back support, for
example, a 3-inch strip was welded around the back. Originally the
tractor was maneuvered with a steering wheel, but because it
obstructed the view, it was replaced with handles.
EX, for experimental, is stamped onto the pump, transmission, and
rear end. Other parts came from the Model L. This tractor in its
restored state has most of its original parts except for the
experimental hydraulic pump. It leaked badly and parts for it were
impossible to find, so it was removed. The rear end and transmission
work fine, said, Ron Koogler an American tractor enthusiast who has
a large collection of John Deere's.
