The Moveable Feast is held at area restaurants throughout the year; mostly Fridays from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm. On occasion, an author’s booktour schedule is accommodated with a mid-week or even a Saturday Moveable Feast. For each feast, the chef prepares an exquisite menu,typically unavailable during the restaurant’s public hours. The presentation precedes the meal. 19th Annual Juried Exhibition Offers Horry-Georgetown HighSchool Artists Awards, Recognition

Patricia Goodwin, Franklin G. Burroughs-Simeon B. Chapin Art Museum

Local high school artists had an opportunity to win cash prizes, sales and a museum show-ing of their work when the Franklin G. Burroughs-Simeon B. Chapin Art Museum hosted itsHorry-Georgetown County High Schools 19th Annual Juried Art Exhibition. The exhibitopened on Sunday, April 22, and the works will be on view through May 20.

Cash prizes included, Best in Show for 2D or 3D ($500); First ($100), Second ($75) andThird place ($50) in both 2D and 3D works; plus eight Honorable Mentions two of whichwere sponsored by the Waccamaw Arts & Craft Guild. A People's Choice Award was pre-sented at the conclusion of the exhibition.

Participating schools were the Academy for the Arts, Science & Technology, Academy forTechnology & Academics, Carolina Forest High School, Conway High School, TheGeorgetown School of Arts & Sciences, Loris High School, Lowcountry Preparatory School,Myrtle Beach High School, North Myrtle Beach High School, Socastee High School, St.James High School and Vine and Branches Homeschool Educators.

Approximately 250 pieces were submitted for consideration in this year's competition, and92 pieces were chosen to be displayed at the Museum. This year, Georgetown, SC, artistsBetsy Havens and James Calk judged the art.

HISTORY:In 1732, the site of the Town of Kingston (Conway) was marked out. In 1734,a plan for the town was completed and by 1735, the first settlers had begunto arrive. In 1785, new lines were drawn and "Kingston County" was createdout of the old district. The new county's name was changed to "Horry District"in honor of General Peter Horry in 1801 and a courthouse was establishedin Kingston. The name of the Village of Kingston was later changed toConwayborough, for General Robert Conway, a general in the SC StateMilitia. Much of the present day downtown was built in the early 1900s follow-ing a destructive fire. The live oak trees and the beautiful Waccamaw Riverprovide the perfect setting for South Carolina's Historic Rivertown.

Quick & EasyLowcountry Boil4 pounds small red potatoes4 small onions (quartered or diced – optional)5 quarts water1 (3-ounce) bag of crab boil seasoning4 tablespoons Old Bay seasoning2 pounds kielbasa or smoked link sausage,

cut into 2-inch pieces6 ears of corn, halved4 pounds large fresh shrimp, peeled

and de-veined

Add potatoes, 5 quarts water, onions and seasonings to largepot. Cover pot and heat to a rolling boil; cook 5 minutes. Addsausage and corn, and return to a boil. Cook 10 minutes oruntil potatoes are tender. Last – add shrimp to stockpot; cook3 to 4 minutes or until shrimp turn pink. Drain. Serve withcocktail sauce. Lemon wedges optional. Serves 12.

History:In the summer of 1977, the Archibald Rutledge Academy spon-sored the first Lowcountry Shrimp Festival. The event focuses onthe blessing of the village’s shrimping fleet as local shrimp boatcaptains and crews prepared for the upcoming shrimp season.Trawlers, festooned with colorful flags and pennants, slowlyparade down Jeremy Creek to receive the prayers of the localclergy for a safe and bountiful season.

This tradition will be continued with this year’s festival whentoday’s shrimp fleet lines up to be blessed. Following the bless-ing a floral wreath will be laid upon the waters as a memorial tothose who have been lost at sea. The Blessing of the Fleet willbe at 3:00.

Proceeds:All proceeds from the Lowcountry Shrimp Festival benefit theCape Romain Environmental Education School. This local publiccharter school's mission is to provide a small and diverse collab-orative learning community that immerses students in criticalthinking, environmental stewardship, and engaged citizenshipthrough meaningful and innovative learning experiences.
