Copied From the EPA Website:Proposed Rule: Use of Lead Free Pipes, Fittings, Fixtures, Solder and Flux for Drinking Water

EPA has published a proposed regulation for Implementing Section 1417 of the Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA) entitled "Use of Lead Free Pipes, Fittings, Fixtures, Solder and Flux for Drinking Water,” for public review and comment.

EPA proposes to make conforming changes to existing regulations based on the Reduction of Lead in Drinking Water Act (RLDWA) and the Community Fire Safety Act enacted by Congress. The proposed regulation would modify the definition of lead free plumbing products (e.g., pipes, fittings and fixtures) to conform to the statute enacted by Congress that prohibits a lead content level above 0.25%. The proposal also includes labeling requirements that will allow users of these products to identify plumbing devices that meet the new “lead free” definition. Labeling will reduce the likelihood that non-lead free products are used in plumbing that is intended for drinking water use. Additionally, the proposal includes requirements for manufacturers to certify that they are meeting these new requirements. EPA is requesting comments on the proposal during a 90-day comment period ending on April 17, 2017.

WORLD PLUMBING DAY11 March Every Year Everywhere

March 11 was designated as a day to honor, all over the world, the contribution of plumbing profession for the advancement of civilization and provide potable water and safe sanitation for the world population.

It is accepted by all, the potable water is necessary for existence of all humans, animals and plants of the world. But water and sanitation are not satisfying the increased population. The public at large is not aware of these issues, and undervalue, or just ignore, the role of plumbing professionals have in the health and well being of the society. For instance it is estimated that over 3 million people of world population of 6 billion, mainly children and older persons, die every year from diseases linked to polluted water and poor sanitation. This tremendous lost of life can be prevented.

To address these issues, the World Plumbing Council (WPC) created in 2010 World Plumbing Day. It calls to educate general public who often doesn’t understand, appreciate and recognize the vital role plumbing

professionals have to protect health and safety of the society. In a short time after designation of World Plumbing Day, respected organizations as United Nations, World Health Organization and thousand trade organizations now know that March 11, every year, everywhere in the world, provides the opportunity to affirm that plumbing profession is vital to global health.

Recently, I read an article discussing water situation in several South African States. The article included a paragraph reading : “The unrelenting struggle against sanitation and water poverty continues to be a daily reality for majority of people living in South Africa. From 170 million people, almost2/3 have no access to basic sanitation, and over 100 million have no access to safe drinking water. “

United Nations published a declaration which reads: “Water is fundamental for life and health. The human right to water is indispensable for leading a healthy life in human dignity. It is a prerequisite to realization of other human rights”. US Senate gave its support to this important issue, by passing a bipartisan resolution, formally designating March 11 as World Plumbing Day.

Visit www.worldplumbingday. org, to learn more of this year celebration and find out ways to participate.

WHO Showed up?Attendance for the January 2017 Meeting...

    MEMBERSHIP REPORTJohn ZagorskiV.P. Membership

There are no new members to announce this month. Come on everyone, Wake Up and Smell the Coffee. Let me help you with your New Year’s resolution challenge. All current members will bring in 1 new member this year. Should you fail, I’m sure a fine will be levied, and if you succeed, an award may be coming your way!

ASPE needs your help in recruiting new members! I’m still running the same membership drive program. It’s simple, sponsor a new member, and bring them to one of our monthly dinner meetings with their application & payment, and the chapter will pay for both of your meals for that meeting. Let’s keep the momentum going!

Moving forward into 2017, the Los Angeles Board of Directors have decided to start giving new members a welcome gift. We have not decided on the gift yet however, I should have something more in next month’s newsletter. Film @ 11.

The engineering systems should match the intent of the client. Owners look to engineers to be their guide and engineers to should look to coordinate the equipment to assist maintenance personal.
