The Chamber Wishes Norway Savings Bank a Happy 150th AnniversarySoon af ter t he Civ i l War ended, Norway Savings Bank was founded in 1866.

In Februar y that year, 14 local men signed the charter. Nat ha niel Gunnison was elected the f irst president one month later when the Bank was incorporated. The Oxford Democrat reported on the birth of Norway Savings on March 23, 1866.

Since t his t ime, Nor way Savings Bank has grown from its headquarters on Main Street, Norway to the third largest Maine-based mutual bank, with 24 branches in western and southern Maine. To commemorate this mile-stone, the Bank is kicking off a yearlong celebration by hosting a 150th Anniversary Party at all of their branch locations on Feb. 5.

T he publ ic is i nv ited to visit any of Norway Savings Bank’s 24 branch locations on Friday, Feb. 5 (snow date, Monday, Feb. 8) for cake and

refreshments. The first 150 visitors to stop by any branch will receive a free copy of an anniversar y book that has been published to cel-ebrate the Bank’s customers, employees and communities.

Attendees to the anniver-sary party will also have the chance to enter to win cash prizes and are encouraged to visit the Norway Savings Bank Facebook page to post the name of their favorite Ma i ne -ba s e d nonprof it , which will be entered into a drawing for $1,500. The Bank also encourages people to post and share stories about how Norway Savings Bank has helped them, their family, their business, their com-munity or a nonprofit they care about on their Facebook page. Every month, the Bank will draw a name from the submitted stories and the winner will receive $150.

“We are proud of our history and honored to have served our local communities for the

past 150 years,” said Patricia Weigel, president and CEO of Norway Savings Bank. “The anniversary party is a way to

thank our customers for their trust and support over the past century and a half.”

The better question might be, “Who doesn’t need marketing?”

Oxford Hills SCORE and the Oxford Hills Chamber of Commerce are sponsoring an upcoming hands-on eight-part mar-keting series because we believe that every business, large or small, needs to continually market its products and ser-vices to flourish. Are you willing to invest an hour a month to become better at marketing?

Marketing is a broad subject, encom-passing elements such as goal setting, pla n n ing, budget ing, adver t ising, web sites, brochures, business cards, branding, logos, pricing, packaging, networking, social media and more. A “marketing program” is a set of coordi-nated activities to help you achieve your marketing objectives. There are a variety of tools available to help, but key to suc-cessful marketing is to get organized and focused.

This Marketing Roundtable Series will touch on various aspects of market-ing and provide ample opportunity to learn from small business peers through group discussion and hands-on activi-ties. This FREE marketing series will meet from 8 to 9 a.m. on the last Thurs-day of each month starting Feb. 25 and continuing for eight months. The series will be held at the Norway Town Office. Join us for all the sessions or just the ones you want to know more about.

The agenda topics will include:

What is a marketing strategy? An over-view (February)

Product descriptions that sell. (March)

Who is your ideal customer? (April)

Competitive analysis and strategy.

Advertising and promotion: Integrated marketing communications.

Socia l Media: W hat is its role in marketing?

Sett ing competit ive and prof itable prices.

Service business marketing.

Part icipants can attend the entire series or selected sessions, as desired. Each participant will receive a binder containing all slides and reference materials to use as a guide for your indi-vidual marketing plan. Look for monthly announcements to sign up!

Please register to hold a seat for this free event by v isit ing http://conta.cc/1PaKBr8.

You can also contact SCORE at 743-0499 or the Oxford Hills Chamber of Com-merce at 743-2281. Please arrive at the event by 7:45 a.m. Coffee will be pro-vided by Aroma Joe’s.

Marketing — Who needs it?Androscoggin Home Care & Hospice to host February Business After HoursThe February Business After Hours will be on Thursday, Feb. 4 at Androscoggin Home Care & Hospice’s Norway office from 5:30-7 p.m. The Norway office is located on 39 Main Street.

The Business After Hours event brings Chamber members together to support, celebrate, acknowl-edge and network with other area business partners. All members and those interested in learning more about the Chamber are invited to come to Androscoggin Home Care & Hospice to learn more about the agency which also is cele-brating 50 years of service.

Light refreshments will be provided and all attendees will have a chance to win one of the many door prizes. There’s no need to RSVP for this event.
