Mardi Gras party 2/13, 1st Friday with MotherJudge 2/6, Albany Roundtable 2/11, Wisconsin Friday Fish Fry 2/20, Welcome to Chef Kevin's new daughter, Violet!
Citation preview
We’ve never had a Mardi Gras party at the U Club, so we’re
pulling out all the stops for our very first one!
Join the University Club of Albany Foundation and the Krewe of Bever-
wyck on Friday, February 13th for The Mardi Gras Celebration to Raise the Roof.
The evening will feature a cocktail reception from 6:00 - 7:00 p.m. with traditional New Orleans party food -
red beans and rice, shrimp remoulade, muffalettas - and cash/sign bar. Drink specials, music and decorations
will transport guests to the French Quarter. Costumes and masks are encouraged!
Then join us in the dining room at 7:00 p.m. for a special concert by the
Dylan Perillo Orchestra. Featur ing horns, woodwinds, bass, guitar and
drums, DPO is a self-described “colorful ensemble” of people and instru-
ments celebrating the beginnings of jazz from 1920s to the 40s. Their influ-
ences include everything from Billie Holiday to Louis Armstrong, Al
Bowlly to Annette Hanshaw, Coleman Hawkins to Lester Young, and the
contemporary artists that continue the tradition.
What’s the Krewe of Beverwyck? Club President Colleen Ryan has long had a fondness for the City of New
Orleans: its food, music, literature, architecture and traditions. She and her husband Eric Hoppel honey-
mooned there in December 1997. But even before that, in 1996, they began the tradition of the Krewe of
Beverwyck with a Mardi Gras celebration on Dove Street! In fact, many members of the University
Club are part of the Royal Lineage of the Krewe of Beverwyck; with Eric serving as King in 1996,
Colleen as Queen in 2002, Chris Burke as King in 2006, Mark Brogna as King in 2007, Richard
Conti as King in 2010, Monica Mahaffey as Queen in 2011, Bonnie Mariano as Queen and Tim
Varney as King in 2012, and Dave Hochfelder as King in 2013.
After taking 2014 to regroup, the Krewe of Beverwyck is ready to move this legendary
party to the University Club. We are extremely grateful to Club Board member Tim Var-
ney for footing the bill for the fantastic Dylan Perillo Orchestra. During the concert, the
King Cake will be served, and the Krewe of Beverwyck's King and Queen for 2015 will be
revealed! We hope you'll join us for all the fun!
There will be two levels of ticketing: General Admission $25 and Preferred Seating with
table service during the concert $40.
This event is by reservation only ~ Please call the Front Desk at 518-463-1151, email
[email protected] or pay in advance with credit card or by PayPal by visit-
ing our blog uclubevents.blogspot.com.
Please note: this is a Foundation event so it cannot be charged to your University Club ac-
count.

brought to you
by Board member, Food and Bever-
age Committee Chair, and Wiscon-

According to seriouseats.com, “the
Friday Fish Fry is as much a part of
the classic Wisconsin diet as beer,
brats, and cheese. The tradition start-
ed back when European immigrants
flocked to places like Milwaukee and
adapted their cooking techniques to
the local fish in Lake Michigan.
Since many were Catholic and avoid-
ed meat on Fridays during Lent, the
weekly fish fry became a staple.”
Stop by beginning at 5:30 p.m. for
brandy drink specials and crackers
and Merkt’s cheese (made in Wis-
consin, of course!). On special that
evening, the classic Wisconsin fish
fry: beer battered cod with lemon and
tartar sauce, coleslaw, a slice of mar-
ble bread and French fries or potato
pancakes with sour cream or apple
sauce. Yum! You can also order from
the regular ala carte menu if you pre-
fer. Please make reservations so Chef
Kevin can be sure to have enough of
everything on hand...call the Front
Desk at 518-463-1151.
