I would like to thank all of our members for their continued efforts in making our Post one of the best Posts in the State of Florida. Many of our State Officers and Officials have continuously stopped by our Post and mentioned how well we are doing and how proud they are of the fine efforts all organizations within our Post have accomplished. We strive to bring each of our members continued information in Veterans affairs and benefits, aid others in need and still offer the environment of fun and enjoyment with our Canteen, Entertainment, and Kitchen Lunches and Dinners. In addition, our Post continues to bring to our members many different Special Events that all can enjoy. Our membership continues to grow and I am proud to say we have already hit our 100% for the year! Thanks goes to Babe Garneau for his hard work as our Membership Chairman over the years and commitment to Post 318. If you have not renewed your membership then I ask that you get it in as soon as possible. Effective Feb. 1st those that have not renewed cannot enjoy the Canteen or Kitchen privileges. You can attend meetings as a member but that is it until you pay your 2015 dues. In January we held our first Seminar for our Post members. The Seminar was in two parts. The first was on Crisis and Advanced Long Term Care Planning and Estate and Trust Planning. The second presentation was on Veterans Disability Appeals, Widow’s Pension and how social Security Disability works for Veterans. This Seminar was orchestrated by our Post Service Officer, Ron Zimmerman. The Seminar was well attended and I personally want to thank Ron for his hard work in making it happen. We are already planning another Seminar down the road to aid our members so look for the in- formation in upcoming Newsletters. We have many events coming up in February for you to attend. We start off with our Super Bowl Party, then our Valen- tines Dinner/Dance, and don’t forget our Killer Steak Night. Our Wednesday Night Dinners continue to be a huge success so try on attending a couple of these fine events. This month I would like to make John Dunn, our Post Chaplin, as our “Member of the Month”. In John’s first year as Chaplin he really has stepped up and performed the job as Chaplin with fine grace. John, I thank you for a wonderful job. Auxiliary Report Happy New Year Everyone! Ladies we need your help in meeting membership quotas. PleaseG.if you have not paid your 2015 dues please do so ASAP. As of January 1 you are considered past due. If your dues are not paid you cannot be issued a new key card. Ask your bartender for an envelope, then ask them to leave it in our Auxiliary Box behind the bar. Thank you for your prompt attention to this matter. Our Valentines Dance will be on Saturday February 14th. Tickets will be presale only through February 9th as we need a headcount for the meal. Tickets will be for sale at the Bar and members will also be selling them. Get your tickets early. It takes many volunteers to make this an event everyone can enjoy. Please be willing to volunteer in any capacity and help make this a success. Our meeting this month is on February 16th at 6:45 pm and our Auxiliary dinner is on February 18th at 5:00. We need additional helpers for our dinners as we have a lot of people here for season. Please come and help support your Unit. See you thereG..

Your friend in service,

Debbie Johnston, Auxiliary President 772-370-6891

Service Officer Report Seminar Follow-up: Our seminar on Elder Law; Estate & Trust Planning and Trust Administration; and VA Benefits for Aid & Attendance, Dependency Indemnity Compensation, Survivors Pension and Disability Claim Appeals process was well attended by Post 318 members of the Legion, Auxiliary and S.A.L. A BIG THANK YOU to Michael Fowler, J.D., LLM and Hugh Eighmie II, P.A., for taking time from their busy schedule to speak to our members. Both attorneys are local and are VA accredited. Veteran’s Choice Card Update: By now a good many of you have received your Veterans Choice Card Temporary Program in the mail. PLEASE read the included information carefully! There are certain “requirements” that have to be met in order to use the card. If you don’t get pre-approval from the VA, then you probably will end up paying the medi-cal bill out of your own pocket! Emergency Medical Care in U.S. Non-VA Facilities: The following information is from the Department of Veterans' Af-fairs 2013 edition of Federal Benefits for Veterans, Depend-ents and Survivors, and is provided for information only. As in all cases, if you have specific questions concerning your situation or need help in filing a claim for services provided outside of the VA Medical system, contact your local County Veteran Services Office. In the case of medical emergencies, VA may reimburse or pay for emergency non-VA medical care not previously au-thorized that is provided to certain eligible Veterans when VA or other federal facilities are not feasibly available. This bene-fit may be dependent upon other conditions, such as notifica-tion to VA, the nature of treatments sought, the status of the Veteran, the presence of other health care insurance and third party liability. Because there are different regulatory requirements that may affect VA payment and Veteran liability for the cost of care, it is very important that the nearest VA medical facility to where emergency services are furnished be notified as soon as possible after emergency treatment is sought. If emergency inpatient services are required, VA will assist in transferring the Veteran to a Department facility, if avail-able. Timely filing claim limitations apply. Please note that reimbursement criteria for Veterans living or traveling outside the United States fall under VA's Foreign Medical Program (FMP), and differ from the criteria for payment of emergency treatment received in the United States. Ron Zimmerman Sr., Post 318 Service Officer

Chaplain Happy New Year everybody. Our Post gave two Christ-mas parties at local nursing homes for veterans who live there. A big thanks to the Ladies Auxiliary for all the work doing these parties. We were able to reach out to about 50 Vets for some Christmas cheer. We had the passing of one of our members, Bill Odenant, on Dec.11th. Psalm 100;4-5 Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name for the Lord is good and his love en-dures forever. His faithfulness continues through all gen-erations. Amen. Lord we ask you keep these United States in your holy protection. Protect our service men and women and their families from harm. Amen John Dunn, Chaplain

S.A.L. Report

Hello post 318! I hope everyone had a happy holiday. We had a wonderful time at the children's’ Christmas Party. We had 108 children that we provided gifts for, more than we have ever had before. This was truly a special day. I would like to thank all the volunteers who helped make this happen. I would also like to give a special thanks to the Legion Riders, SAL Anicito and the Sheriff’s Explorers for escorting SANTA to the party, and a very special thanks to SANTA for being there every year. We had a great turnout at our lasagna dinner. A special thanks to all the volunteers who helped make this happen. GREAT JOB!!!! We served 198 dinners. Thanks to all who attended. I hope you all enjoyed it. Congratulations to Dick Comer who won our S.A.L. Raffle. We raised over $1,000.00 for our Veterans and youth programs. Thanks to all who supported us. If you have not renewed your membership by now you have lost your canteen privileges. So please RENEW NOW!!!!!!! Andy Saffioti, S.A.L. Commander
