FROM THE VICE PRESIDENT It’s hard to believe that in a few short weeks, we’ll all be bundling up and heading to the golf course. I sincerely hope that everyone has been able stay warm and prosper during this polar vortex. With the hope for warm weather, I know I’m looking forward to the spring golf season. Like your returning players, the IHSGCA has been working very hard to improve! The board has talked with many of our coaches over the past year …asking what we can do to make our association stronger and better. And one theme seems to be prevalent: Communication. So with that in mind, our staff has made a concerted effort to improve that issue. I’d like to publicly thank Crown Point Golf Coach, Jon Haas, for setting up our new and improved website. He’s put in many hours to re-organize the design and feel of the www.ihsgca.net. We’ve also hired a graphic designer to provide a monthly newsletter (Beginning today – Feb 1st) that will run from February to October all year long. With REMIND101 on board as well as Twitter…we feel we’ve made huge gains in communication. Good luck with your pre-season workouts and lets all hope for some relief from this cold weather. Why Join the ihsGca?your membership dues allow the ihsGca to do the following things to benefit you throughout the year.

neWsLetters: The IHSGCA sends e-newsletters throughout the boys and girls golf seasons. These newsletters inform coaches on issues related to the season. Invitational updates, rules changes, awards information and other coaching related items are all part of each issue.

a yearLy coaches cLinic: The IHSGCA provides a fall clinic to give an opportunity for coaches from around the state to connect allowing discussion on the issues important to high school and junior golf. This clinic also qualifies for the yearly rules meeting for golf coaches as required by the IHSAA.

a sPrinG and FaLL aWards Banquet: The IHSGCA works in conjunction with the IGA to honor the all-state teams as well as deserving coaches who have worked to promote junior

golf. As an association we honor players and coaches with various awards. These awards, their descriptions and qualifications can be found on the website.

Most importantly, the IHSGCA provides a voice for all of the high school coaches around the state in the decisions being made by the IHSAA. Your membership allows us to speak to the IHSAA with the power of over 400 coaches representing over 300 high schools. Our ability to get the word out to so many coaches is noticed. It is not possible to please every program and every coach. However, every issue brought to the attention of the association is heard, discussed and a decision is made.

Boys and GirLs WeLcome! The coaches Golf camp is a unique program designed specifically for junior golfers wanting to play collegiate golf no matter what their current skill level. This program is open to all golfers and will provide an inside look into golf at the next level!

This is an opportunity for you to play golf in front of college coaches, sharpen your skills and learn about the college golf experience. Not only will the coaches be accessible for questions, but they also are there to help you improve your game. Parents will be welcome to listen in on classroom sessions. High school coaches are welcome free of charge.
