Communion Sunday Is Food Pantry Sunday

The first Sunday of each month is Communion Sunday. Bring in specific food items to help stock the food pantry. This month we are looking for the following items: Soups, Chili or Stews, Peanut Butter, and Hot Chocolate mix. Paper products and toothpaste are always welcome. Items can be left in the designated containers at each entrance of Church.

We have so many ways to communicate today. There is naturally the telephone. There

is also the cellphone, and email, texting, facebook, even Skype or facetime.

When I was young, I can remember only having the phone that hung on the wall in the

kitchen. I can even remember when our number went from four to seven digits! Next to the phone in the kitchen, my dad hung an old wooden phone with the crank on the

side to call the operator. It didn't make calls—he put a radio inside of it.

When we think about being called, we usually think of either the telephone or one of the newer ways to communicate. People dial your number, and call you. There is another

way we are called as well. Ephesians 1.18 in the New Living Translation says, I pray that your hearts will be flooded with light so that you can understand the confident hope he has given to those he called—his holy people who are his rich and glorious inheritance.

Have you ever thought that God has called you? I am not saying that he picked up the

phone and called you. I don't even mean the way we use that term to talk about some-one being called into full-time ministry. God has called everyone. Some answer, and

some don't.

For those of us that do answer, Paul has a prayer for us—that we will understand the

hope that is ours through Christ Jesus. The best way to understand how to live out that hope is to know the purpose that God has called you.

Romans 8:28 is the primary verse for the Winter Study Series. It says, We know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to His purpose. You get to experience the good things that God desires to have happen for His glory when you not only know, but are willing to live out the purposes that He has

called you to.

I am very excited for us to go through the What On Earth Am I Here For Winter Study

Series. As we go through this together, my prayer is like Paul’s. I pray that your heart will be flooded with an understanding of the hope that God has called you to.

Church Council Highlights

Page 7

The regular scheduled meeting of the Church Council was on Monday, January 21,

with nineteen members present.

Don gave an update on the scheduling for appointments to speak with Dr. Landis.

More time will be made available if anyone else has a desire to speak with him. When Dr. Landis is finished gathering information, he will prepare a written report and also

have a report to give in person to the council.

Don Buschlen and Pastor will look at the church calendar and select a date for the special meeting to discuss moving money to complete the window project. The Trus-

tees have been asked to have a presentation prepared.

Each board met and selected their board officers.

Christian Ed: Jane Kinnamon, Chair; John Dawson, Secretary; Vickie Roller Nominat-ing. The Sunday school superintendent has stepped down, and the board will not fill

this position at this time. VBS dates are set for July 14 - 18. Sheila Reid and Shirley

Reid will be directors. There will be no Sunday school on Easter, Mother’s Day and Memorial Day. The Last day for this season will be May 19.

Missions: Sheila Reid, Chair; Michele VanSnepson, Secretary, Shirley Reid, Nominat-ing. We will be doing Hope Totes again this year. Items for Operation Christmas

Child shoeboxes will be collected every other month.

Deacons: Peg Brunner, Chair & Secretary; Mark Jonas, Treasurer; Les Anderson, Ushers & Constitution Review.

Trustees: Mike Osterhout, Chair; Jerry Brunner, Secretary; Joe Ryan, Memorial Com-mittee; Jim Roller, Nominating. There was some discussion about the special busi-

ness meeting. Board chairs will be receiving a monthly budget report.

The next regular meeting of the Council will be on Monday, February 18 at 6:00 pm.

Special Business Meeting Called For Sunday, February 24

A motion was made and passed at the Annual Business Meeting to call a Special Busi-

ness Meeting to discuss the possibility of moving the savings fund for Van Outlay to the Window Fund. This would bring the Window Fund very close to having enough

funds to complete the second phase of the project.

The two entryways are yet to be completed at a total cost of $30,000. There is cur-

rently $11,000 in the fund. There is $16,500 in the Van Outlay.

The Special Business Meeting will be on Sunday, February 24, following the Worship Service. Sunday school will still meet following the meeting.
