The second month of theyear is already here andJanuary has proven to be a

month with good turnouts for theFriday Night Dinners. Joyce Cra-

ven has done a great job of keep-ing track of the reservations; weappreciate her enthusiasm.

February 26 will be a clubcruise-in for members which willinclude a boat inspection and theBlessing of the Fleet. Failure toattend could increase your risk ofgoing aground during the follow-ing season.

February 6 is Super Bowl XLVwhich will place the Steelersagainst the Packers; should be agood game since the teams arerelatively close in skill and thecurrent point spread is very small. The game begins at 3:29 pm ourtime so come early and celebratethe camaraderie of our follow clubmembers.

We have a number of cruises

coming up and it helps cruise cap-tains if you can sign up early evenif you are not completely sure youwill make it.

Hope to see everyone at the Su-per Bowl Party (for me) GoPackers.

Tyler and Becky Ander-son are preparing somegreat meals and Sunday

Brunch for the club. Gradu-ates of Vintage High School

and parents of three youngchildren, they manage severalbusinesses here in Napa in-cluding, Miyamo, sellingwomens apparel on FirstStreet, Anderson Catering andAnderson Janitorial. Tyler isactive in the Downtown Asso-ciation and is a volunteer fire-man.

Last year many membersfelt challenged by cooking for

60 on Friday Nights. This yearthe Board approved an ar-rangement with Andersonwhich was negotiated by SteveVartan who is responsible forimplementation. The plan iswin-win. Anderson has the useof our new galley for his cater-ing activities and the Club getsmeals catered at a very reason-able price. His janitorial crewworks from 6 pm to 2 am andcleans the club every Fridayevening.

If you are planning a privateevent at the club, they canclean up for you at a nominalcharge. Anderson catering isavailable for parties at yourhome or business. Contactthem at 530-304-9671 or([email protected]).

January started off with asmaller than usual cruise outto Berkeley YC for our an-

nual New Years Cruise. Boatswere Charisma, Grand Cru, Shiva

and Star Ship. Between shoppingand celebrating at the club we had agood time but we did miss the SouthBeach get together which had be-come a much looked forward toevent in recent years. Well workon trying to find a way to return itto our schedules. We may need tomake individual reservations. Staytuned.

Coming up this month we havetwo events. On Wednesday, Febru-ary 16 at 5:30 pm at the clubhouseI will be holding the first Safety

Workshop of the year. The subjectwill be VHF radio procedureswhich will include general usage awell as distress situations. Pleasecall or email me ([email protected])if you plan to attend. The secondevent is Vessel Safety Checks by theUSCG Auxiliary at 0900 hours onSaturday, February 26. It is a goodidea once a year to think about andcheck out all of your safety equip-ment. Remember pyrotechnicsmust be within 42 months of the

date of manufacture in order tofulfill the USCG requirement. Theinspection will be followed by theblessing of the fleet by our own Rev.Donald and Rev. Thomas.

Kurt Star will lead our annualpilgrimage to Loch Lomond YC inSan Rafael March 18-20. Saturdaynight dinner will include a potatocarving contest and Irish dancers.Sign up on the website.
