Respect Life The temptations of Jesus, summarized in today’s Gospel passage, also summarize our own. Living on bread alone would imply that the economic challenges of having a child become more determinative than the value of that child. Worshiping anyone other than the Lord our God would imply that our own will is more important in the end than God’s. Finally, failing to trust in the Lord alone, and his provision for our future, can lead us to resort to violent acts like abortion to try to control that future or surmount an obstacle in the way of what we think should happen. Lord of Life itself, Guide our Hearts in Christ.

From the Pastor’s Desk… “Repent and believe in the Gospel.”

This call to convert our hearts is the main theme of the readings, which we heard on Ash Wednesday and today, on the First Sunday of Lent. These readings also caution us about insincere attitudes, which only signify change in appearance and not the inner transformation of the heart.

In one state a criminal was caught and sentenced to life in prison for murdering and prior to that tormenting his victims. Before he was locked up he was sent for medical evaluations. After his heart was examined the doctor determined that: “His heart is in order. There are no changes.” From the doctors point of view this type of diagnosis was good news for the patient. Can we look at the heart as only another organ in our body? No. The heart is something more. Two weeks ago, we heard Cardinal George’s homily in which he emphasized that the heart is mentioned frequently in the Scriptures and it is the center of divine operations and the core of Christian conversion. We should open our hearts enough for the spirit to reside within and accept his gifts, which are essential in order to perceive Christ in our lives and to unite with Him. There are many people who are alive today thanks to heart transplants. They are thankful to their donors. During the Season of Lent Christ reminds us that He is the one who can give us a new heart and a new spirit. Let us open our hearts to Him and synchronize the beating of our hearts with the beating of His heart. Thank you for your generous commitments to the Annual Catholic Appeal. Those who didn’t do it yet, can fulfill the pledge in the back of the church at any time. Abstinence from meat is to be observed by all Catholics 14 years old and older on Ash Wednesday and on all the Fridays of Lent. Fasting is to be observed on Ash Wednesday by all Catholics who are 18 years of age but not yet 59. Those who are bound by this may take only one full meal. Two smaller meals are permitted if necessary to maintain strength according to ones needs, but eating solid foods between meals is not permitted. The special Paschal fast, as well as abstinence, are prescribed for Good Friday and encouraged for Holy Saturday.

Stations of the Cross Every Friday at 6:30pm in the Chapel in English. Every Friday at 7:30pm in the Church in Polish.

Lenten Reflection by Mother Teresa

People are often unreasonable, illogical and self centered; Forgive them anyway.

If you are kind, people may accuse you of selfish, ulterior motives; Be kind anyway.

If you are successful, you will win some false friends and some true enemies;

Succeed anyway.

If you are honest and frank, people may cheat you; Be honest and frank anyway.

What you spend years building, someone could destroy overnight; Build anyway.

If you find serenity and happiness, they may be jealous; Be happy anyway.

The good you do today, people will often forget tomorrow; Do good anyway.

Give the world the best you have, and it may never be enough; Give the world the best you've got anyway.

You see, in the end, it is between you and God; It was never between you and them anyway.

“...Ludzie są nierozumni, nielogiczni i samolubni; Przebaczaj im, mimo wszystko. Jeśli jesteś życzliwy, ludzie oskarżą cię o egoizm i niskie pobudki; Pozostań życzliwy, mimo wszystko. Jeśli osiągniesz w życiu sukces, znajdziesz wielu fałszywych przyjaciół i wielu prawdziwych wrogów; Staraj się osiągnąć sukces, mimo wszystko. Jeśli jesteś szczery i otwarty, ludzie mogą to wykorzystać; Bądź szczery i otwarty, mimo wszystko. -Matka Teresa z Kalkuty

Z Biurka Ks. Proboszcza... “Nawróćcie się do mnie całym swym sercem i wierzcie w Ewangelię.”

To wezwanie do przemiany naszych serc to główna treść czytań mszalnych, które słyszeliśmy w Środę Popielcową i dzisiaj w Pierwszą Niedzielę Postu. Serce to coś więcej.

Faith can be Funny A little boy wanted $100.00 very badly and prayed for weeks, but nothing happened. Then he decided to write God a letter requesting the $100.00. When the postal authorities received the letter to God, USA, they decided to send it to the President. The president was so amused that he instructed his secretary to send the little boy a $5.00 bill. The president thought this would appear to be a lot of money to a little boy. The little boy was delighted with the $5.00 bill and sat down to write a thank-you note to God, which read: Dear God: Thank you very much for sending the money. However, I noticed that for some reason you sent it through Washington, DC, and those crooks deducted $95.00 in taxes.
