Theme Family Day
On Sunday in worship we will be
celebrating Family Day Families
come in all shapes and sizes This
weekend is a time to honour and
celebrate the families we are a part
of Our family may be those we are
biologically related to married into
chosen to be a part of or a church
family For some due to family
conflict or other reasons they have
ldquochosen othersrdquo to form a family
around them These may be close
friends co-workers neighbours or
others that they find love and
support with Not all of us are
fortunate to have a loving and
coherent family who support and
encourage us
In Matthewrsquos gospel and in Paulrsquos
letter to the Corinthian community
they acknowledge the challenges
that we find in relationships with
others We may be in conflict and
disconnected to those closest to us
Paul encourages the Corinthians
and us to follow Christ and allow
Christ to guide us in our relation-
ship He calls us to be united to one
another and as ldquoGodrsquos servantsrdquo to
work together
As children growing up one of the
most important learnings is to get
along and cooperate To put it
simply play nice in the sand box
Author Robert Fulghum once wrote
a book called ldquoEverything I needed
to know I learned in Kindergartenrdquo
These learnings are so important for
all of us as we grow and mature
Since its Family day weekend we
can see how important these
teachings can be
In the service we will look more
closely at how we can be united in
Christ while showing love for one
another
Scripture Readings
1 Corinthians 31-9
Matthew 5 21-26
Meditation
Letrsquos all just get along

A Mommy Moment
Four year old Mitch loved candy almost as much as his mom Ann did He and Daddy
had given her a beautiful heart-shaped box of chocolates for Valentines Day A few days later
Mitch was eyeing it wishing to have a piece of it As he reached out to touch one of the big
pieces Ann said to him If you touch it then you have to eat it Do you understand
Oh yes he said nodding his head Suddenly his little hand patted the tops of all the pieces of
candy Now I can eat them all

A Mommy Moment
Four year old Mitch loved candy almost as much as his mom Ann did He and Daddy
had given her a beautiful heart-shaped box of chocolates for Valentines Day A few days later
Mitch was eyeing it wishing to have a piece of it As he reached out to touch one of the big
pieces Ann said to him If you touch it then you have to eat it Do you understand
Oh yes he said nodding his head Suddenly his little hand patted the tops of all the pieces of
candy Now I can eat them all
