NEXT SUNDAY’S SCRIPTURE READINGS:

Leviticus 19:1-2, 17-18, 1 Corinthians 3:16-23, Matthew 5:38-48

MARRIAGE MOMENTS— Valentine’s Day. Jesus continually urges us to go beyond the letter of the law. He interprets “You shall not kill” (Mt. 5) as “Don’t be angry.” “You shall not commit adultery” might be interpreted as “Show your spouse that they come first and you love him/her wholeheartedly.” Go the extra mile for your beloved this Valentine’s Day. Find a way to stretch your love.

A FAMILY PERSPECTIVE— Don’t look very far when you hear today’s gospel speak of poverty, hunger, sorrow or exclusion. These things happen in families. Children feel “insulted” when they are constantly criticized. Spouses “hunger” for affection. Grandparents feel “excluded” by divorce and custody decisions. Parents “weep” because they feel alienated from their children.

OLG YOUTH MASS— The OLG/St. Barbara Youth Group will be

holding a Youth Mass on March 12th at 6:00 at Our Lady of Grace Church. The youth group will be participating in readings and contemporary music. A reception will follow in Keefer Hall. All are welcome!

Thought of the week— We are not called to observe the values of the world, we must observe Gospel values.

TALK ON OUR LADY’S MESSAGES TO ST. BERNADETTE— The meaning of the messages of Our Lady to St. Bernadette at Lourdes will be the subject of a free talk at Franciscan University of Steubenville given by Barbara Davies. Barbara lived in Lourdes for 30 years and now is coordinator for the New Evangelization in the Diocese of Shrewsbury in the United Kingdom. Her talk will take place on Thursday, February 16, at 8:00 p.m., in Christ the King Chapel. Davies will focus on how we are called to live out the reality of Lourdes in our own lives.

Today’s bulletin includes an insert about our upcoming parish pilgrimage to “Catholic Kentucky” in May of this year. Kentucky is one of the few states in our country that I have not visited, so I am particularly excited about the prospects of our journey. As with other parish pilgrimages both in America and overseas, Wendt Touring, Inc., will be handling all of our travel arrangements with their usual expertise in focusing on religious sites while also highlighting some regional features. I have worked with Wendt Touring, Inc., for about 15 years and have always found their tours spiritually enriching, well organized and reasonably priced.

On our 3 – day pilgrimage, we will visit the Cistercian Abbey of Gethsemani where Fr. Thomas Merton lived, wrote and directed the spiritual lives of many. We will also visit one of the first religious communities of women in the United States, the Sisters of Loretto. Our trip includes a visit to both the Basilica of St. Joseph, the first Catholic cathedral west of the Alleghenies in the Louisville Diocese and the magnificent Basilica of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in the Covington Diocese. We will have ample opportunities for Mass and prayer. Our final day’s trip to Williamstown, Kentucky includes a new attraction: a replica of Noah’s Ark built by 100 skilled Amish carpenters, which will give our pilgrimage a unique biblical dimension. We will also find time for such famous historic sites as Churchill Downs, where the Kentucky Derby is held each year. In addition to the thoroughbred industry, Kentucky is also known for its bourbon distilleries, one of which we will also tour. A little known but interesting historical fact: Daniel Boone, the legendary Kentucky frontiersman, was originally from our own Pennsylvania. Since I was unable to go on our parish pilgrimage to Philadelphia to see Pope Francis at the World Congress of Families in 2015 due to my open heart surgery a month earlier, I am very anxious to lead this parish pilgrimage. We will also be joined with people from my first pastorate, Nativity Parish in South Park. Our trip in May promises to be both an invigorating spiritual experience and an enjoyable regional journey. Please join us on May 9, 10, and 11 for “Catholic Kentucky and the Ark Encounter.” Rev. Richard A. Infante, Pastor

The priests, parishioners and staff would like to welcome everyone here today celebrating Mass with us at Our

Lady of Grace Parish.
