Maya Rae, born in 2002, is an up and coming Vancouver Singer/Songwriter and we at FUSIONpresents believe she is the real deal! Having first performed live on none other than the FUSIONpresents West Beach stage with Sami at the SUNDAY NIGHT JAM in 2013, Maya has worked hard at her craft, creating captivating studio recordings and music videos that have acquired national attention on CBC Radio, Roundhouse Radio and other social media outlets around the world. Besides singing, Maya is also a student of the double bass and piano and has been taking vocal lessons for years from Vancouver’s top vocal coach, Cecile Larochelle. Inspired by musicians like Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, The Beatles, Nina Simone, and modern day artists like Megan Trainor, Ed Sheeran and Adele, Maya is already an experienced live performer, busker and musician who has performed on many stages and various venues including The Vancouver Jazz Festival 2013, Jazz Vespers, Pyatt Hall and Blue Frog Studios. She has shared the stage with prominent artists and musicians such as Tim Tamashiro, Jodi Proznick, Tilden Webb, Luis Giraldo, to name a few, as well as the cast of the YTV Television Show Some Assembly Required. Currently, Maya is preparing for her upcoming shows in 2016 with Vancouver Coastal Jazz and is finalizing production of several new and exciting recordings, including a song co-written with Sami. Maya’s holiday recording “I’m Still Waiting For Christmas” continues to win awards including the Top 10 Holiday Tunes of 2015 on Airplay. In September 2009 I moved to Elm St. in White Rock. I noticed as I took my dog for a walk past West Beach Bar & Grill every day for a year that people gathered in this pub and that live music was played most nights of the week. Eventually I gathered up my courage and entered! The experience changed my life, as never have I met so many people who are now my good friends and I must say, the music is “oh so good”! So many times at West Beach one hears something so special and realizes it’s one of those moments we will remember forever. I have had the privilege of watching these musicians grow, hone their craft and build their fan base. And now, thankfully, I am involved with the music in co-writing the FUSIONpresents Newsletter. I want to thank Sami for asking me to participate in this awesome venture of helping promote music and the music scene. In the next issue we will feature rock legend Shawn Miller and find out what brand guitar pick he uses! We will then follow that up with a feature on White Rock’s own Chris Charlton and learn what’s under the hat ;) Till then, enjoy all the live music you can!
