February Funnies A lady on a commuter train was

reading a newspaper article about life and death statistics.

Fascinated, she turned to the man next to her and asked, "Did you know that every time I breathe somebody dies?" "Really," he said, "have you tried a good mouthwash?" e\

Pirate Captain

There once was pirate captain who, whenever it looked like a battle would be imminent, would change into a red shirt. After observing this behavior for a few months, one of the crew members asked him what it meant. "It's in case I get shot. I don't want the crew members to see blood and freak out." "That's very sensible, sir." At that moment, the crew member spotted eight hostile ships on the horizon. The captain all of a sudden looked very concerned, and yelled to his assistant "Get my brown pants!" he coup said, "No, no, we trust you."

What's Good For Constipation: Old Aunt Cora went to her doctor to see what could be done about her troublesome constipation. "It's terrible," she said to the doctor. "I haven't moved my bowels in more than a week." "I see. Have you done anything about it?" asked the doctor. "Oh, yes," Aunt Cora replied, "I sit in the bathroom for a good half of an hour in the morning and then again at night." "No," the doctor said, "I mean do you take anything?" "Of course I do." she answered, "I take a magazine."

Bad Food

A Doctor was addressing a large audience in San Diego. ’The material we put into our stomachs is enough to have killed most of us sitting here, years ago. Red meat is awful. Soft drinks corrode your stomach lining… Chinese food is load-ed with MSG. High fat diets can be disastrous, and none of us realizes the long-term harm caused by the germs in our drinking water. However, there is one thing that is the most danger-ous of all and we all have eaten it, or will eat it. Can anyone here tell me what food it is that causes the most grief and suffering for years after eat-ing it?’

After several seconds of quiet, a 75-year-old man in the front row meekly looks at his wife and slowly raises his hand, and asks, ’Is it Wedding Cake?’

Why Your Credit Score Matters During Retirement

Most younger folks understand the importance of building and maintaining good

credit. After all, the better your credit score, the greater your chances of getting

approved for a mortgage, car loan, or any type of financing you might need.

Retirees, by contrast, may be less inclined to give their credit scores much

thought. After all, it's less common for a retiree to apply for a new mortgage,

and at a time when expenses should be going down, many retirees may not be

as concerned about their ability to borrow because they're not actively looking to

do so.

When you need an emergency loan

Emergencies happen to everyone, including retirees. One major reason not to

let your credit score slip in retirement is that you never know when you might

need money in a hurry. It is also a good practice to follow your credit scores to

help detect if your identity has been stolen.

Credit cards and insurance premiums

Just because you're retired, doesn't mean you no longer need a credit

card, and if you want to take advantage of the best offers out there, you'll

need a high enough credit score to get approved. This especially holds

true if you plan to travel extensively during retirement. A rewards card

with a generous mileage or points program could help you stretch your

travel budget significantly.

We recommend Credit Karma with their 50 million-strong member base

which accounts for 22 percent of all Americans with a credit profile in the

United States. The company has given away more than one billion free

credit scores since launching its product in March 2008, without charging

members a penny to use its service. Go to www.creditkarma.com and

try it today.

Personal Notes: Last week was the 30th anniversary of the Challenger Shuttle explosion. When I heard the news about Challenger I was on a two-week Reserves exercise at Camp Ripley, Minnesota. We were in the middle of some snowbank sleeping out of tents and we hit one of those cold spells Minne-sota is famous for in January. It was –30 below zero at night and warmed up to –16 below zero by day. I was part of a Combat Engineering group so we had lots of equipment to keep running and we had to leave the machin-ery run 24/7 otherwise it would freeze up. I remember someone said they heard about the explosion on the radio. I’m not sure of the reason why it was me, but I was nominated to take one of the jeeps and go to “civilization” and buy a newspaper so we could read the details. At the time I was a newly married 24 year old kid. I took a small liberty and decided before I rushed back to the platoon, I would sit in a warm Denny’s that morning and have a breakfast that didn’t taste like military food. Since I hadn’t showered in a week, was dressed in military fatigues from head to toe and wearing camouflage paint on my face, I remember getting a lot of strange looks. I did-n’t care, I was warm… and had some good hot grub in my stomach. After a quick collect call to check in back home, I returned to the frozen world to finish my duties. Thirty years may have passed, and it was a terrible incident that afforded me that luxury, but it’s funny the things that stay with you forever.

Why Men Should Not Write Advice Columns

Dear John,

I hope you can help me. The other day, I set off to work, leaving my husband in the house watching TV. My car stalled and then broke down about a mile down the road, and I had to walk back to get my husband’s help. When I got home, I couldn’t believe my eyes. He was in our bedroom with our neighbor’s daughter! I am 32 and my husband is 34 and the neighbor’s daughter is 19. We have been married for 10 years. When I confronted him, he admitted they had been having the affair for six months. He won’t go to counseling, and I’m a wreck and need advice urgently. Can you please help? Sincerely Sheila

Dear Sheila,

A car stalling after being driven only a short distance can be caused by a variety of faults to the engine. Start by checking that there is no debris in the fuel line. If that is clear, check the vacuum pipes and hoses on the intake manifold. If that all seems to check out, you probably need a new fuel pump. I hope this helps.

Sincerely John
