Today is First Sunday ~ August 7 ~

Coffee, Fruit, & Donuts after the 7:30 and 9:00 a.m.

Masses in the Cafeteria Hosted by the Altar Society

As we read this week-end, from the Gospel of Saint Luke, Jesus reassures us that we have no reason to fear, for our Father in heaven “is pleased to give you the kingdom.” The Kingdom? This is what Jesus tells us. God loves us that much; God offers to us the opportunity of complete oneness with

Him in heaven. He is pleased to do so, Jesus says. What must we do to inherit this promise? Our call is to detach ourselves from this world and give ourselves totally to God, who, in turn, promises us His Kingdom. We detach ourselves by listening to the Word of God and, as exemplified by the life of Jesus, seek to live it: “Sell your belongings and give alms. Provide money bags for yourselves that do not wear out, an inexhaustible treas-ure in heaven that no thief can reach nor moth destroy.” There-fore, what is etched in our hearts testifies to what we truly desire. If it is power, wealth or prestige, it will be reflected in the choices we make each day. If we desire the Kingdom of God, all will know that we are followers of Christ. We will be filled with charity and peace. Jesus summarizes it in one verse: “For where your treasure is, there also will your heart be.” Have a most blessed week with the Lord.

Holy Land

Prayer & Encounter

January 23-February 3, 2017

Join Bishop Brendan Cahill on this pilgrimage to walk in the footsteps of Jesus.

The Gospels and the Rosary come to Life as we visit Nazareth, Bethlehem, Cana, sail on the Sea of Galilee, Mt. Tabor, Jericho, and pray the Stations of the Cross in Jerusalem on the way to an early Mass in the Church of the Holy Sepulcher. On this very special pilgrimage with Bishop Cahill, there will be special op-portunities with Christian brothers and sisters, and learn how they are the “living stones” of the Holy Land. And, yes, you will take a dip in the Dead Sea too!

The Pope Speaks “Don’t be fooled by worldly treasures that seduce people but leave them tired, loveless and empty. Seek out and gather divine treasures like love, charity, service, patience, goodness and tenderness. While material possessions will remain here on earth, there are treasures that we can bring with us to heaven.

However, they are not the things that you have saved up for yourself, but rather those you have given to others, which is the gift and pres-ence of Jesus Christ in us.”

“Not the goods of the world, but God. Not riches, but God. Not honors, but God. Not distinction, but God. Not dignities, but God. Not advance-ment, but God. God always and in everything.”
