Hello, my name is Tim and this is how the FastBacker came about: At the time, I was working in the lumber industry (for 29 years), and preparing myself to be let go. This was during the time when most mills were getting shut down and I knew I was ultimately going to lose my job. Because of this, I decided to start a new career of becoming a contractor. While building my first house, I realized I needed to save money anywhere I could. When I was framing the house, I was outside counting the rest of the lumber I could take back. At this point, Jack, my brother, came and asked me where the top plate was for the house (i.e. sheet rock backer). This is when I realized that the wood I was planning on returning was in fact the wood I was going to have to use just to hang sheet rock. I instantly called the city inspector to see if I had to have this lumber to be used as sheet rock backer. He informed me that this backer that we were currently using was “non-structural wood” and you could use any form of material. He also added that if you could come up with a product that could replace this lumber that would be fantastic. That evening, my son and my brother and I drew up the FastBacker from the dust on the hood of my truck. This is where we came up with the idea of the off-set T shape, and the FastBacker was born. During this brainstorming, we knew that we want to manage a natural resource and produce this product with recycled material. Over the next two weeks, I searched everywhere for a product similar to do this, sure that there was something already created. I couldn’t find it anywhere. At this stage, I produced a prototype of the FastBacker. After the prototype was produced, I searched out a patent company to start the steps to secure a patent for the product. Four and a half years later, we received our patent. FastBacker was born.
