Planito p ® 1 8 Planitop ® 18 Fast-setting, flowable one-component repair mortar DESCRIPTION Planitop 18 is a one-component, shrinkage-compensated, fast-setting, cementitious repair mortar that is suited for all interior/exterior horizontal concrete repairs, including bridge deck overlays, parking garage floor repairs and various horizontal DOT concrete repairs. USES Use for horizontal structural concrete repairs and restoration from 1/2" (12 mm) up to a thickness of 2" (5 cm). Planitop 18 can be placed in large quantities in horizontal applications and is suited for precast, cast-in-place, post-tensioned or prestressed concrete repair. Use for the renovation and resurfacing of concrete structures such as airport runways, balconies, bridge decks, concrete pavement, manufacturing floors, parking decks, tunnels and warehouse floors. Use for the renovation of concrete surfaces subject to extreme exposure and heavy vehicular traffic, including roads, ramps, industrial floors, piers, sidewalks and canals. Use where turnaround time is at a premium, as Planitop 18 is open to vehicular traffic within 1 hour of application. RECOMMENDED SUBSTRATES Properly prepared masonry and concrete at least 28 days old, stable and free of hydrostatic pressure Contact MAPEI’s Technical Services Department for installation recommendations regarding substrates and conditions not listed. TECHNICAL NOTES Planitop 18 is rapid-setting, providing excellent compressive and flexural strength. Planitop 18 also provides higher resistance to abrasion than ordinary repair mortars. Planitop 18 requires only the addition of water and is premeasured for easy field use and control. Planitop 18 can be placed easily using either a screed or trowel and then can be finished easily. Planitop 18 adheres well to old concrete surfaces and has good resistance to freeze/thaw conditions and de-icing salts. Before application of Planitop 18, mechanically roughen, saturate surface-dry (SSD) and scrub-coat the concrete surface to ensure a secure bond. Use reinforcement bars for added strength as needed. DESCRIPTIONPlanitop 18 is a one-component, shrinkage-compensated, fast-setting, cementitious repair mortar that is suited for all interior/exterior horizontal concrete repairs, including bridge deck overlays, parking garage floor repairs and various horizontal DOT concrete repairs.

USES• Use for horizontal structural concrete repairs and restoration from 1/2"

(12 mm) up to a thickness of 2" (5 cm). Planitop 18 can be placed in large quantities in horizontal applications and is suited for precast, cast-in-place, post-tensioned or prestressed concrete repair.

• Use for the renovation and resurfacing of concrete structures such as airport runways, balconies, bridge decks, concrete pavement, manufacturing floors, parking decks, tunnels and warehouse floors.

• Use for the renovation of concrete surfaces subject to extreme exposure and heavy vehicular traffic, including roads, ramps, industrial floors, piers, sidewalks and canals.

• Use where turnaround time is at a premium, as Planitop 18 is open to vehicular traffic within 1 hour of application.

RECOMMENDED SUBSTRATES• Properly prepared masonry and concrete at least 28 days old, stable and

free of hydrostatic pressure

Contact MAPEI’s Technical Services Department for installation recommendations regarding substrates and conditions not listed.

TECHNICAL NOTES• Planitop 18 is rapid-setting, providing excellent compressive and flexural

strength. Planitop 18 also provides higher resistance to abrasion than ordinary repair mortars.

• Planitop 18 requires only the addition of water and is premeasured for easy field use and control.

• Planitop 18 can be placed easily using either a screed or trowel and then can be finished easily.

• Planitop 18 adheres well to old concrete surfaces and has good resistance to freeze/thaw conditions and de-icing salts. Planitop® 18

• Planitop 18 is a flowable mortar that can be extended up to 80% by weight with selected aggregate for deeper applications.

• Planitop 18 has low chloride permeability, which helps to protect embedded steel against corrosion.

• Planitop 18 can only be used between 45°F and 95°F (7°C and 35°C).

INSTRUCTIONS

1. Surface Preparation

1.1 All substrates must be structurally sound, stable and solid.

1.2 Thoroughly clean the surface of any substance that could interfere with the bond of the installation material, including dirt, paint, tar, asphalt, wax, oil, grease, latex compounds, form release agents, laitance, loose toppings, foreign substances and any other residues.

1.3 Concrete surfaces must be mechanically profiled and prepared by shotblasting, sandblasting, waterjetting, scarifying or other engineer-approved methods to achieve a +/- 1/8" (3 mm) profile. Reference ICRI CSP Standards 7 to 9 for acceptable profile height.

1.4 Concrete substrate and ambient room temperatures must be between 45°F and 95°F (7°C and 35°C) before application. Maintain temperatures within this range for at least 12 hours after the installation of Planitop 18.

1.5 Do not apply over standing water or wet surfaces.

2. Mixing

2.1 Into a clean mixing container, pour the required amount of cool, clean potable water for desired application method. (For troweling, combine 3 U.S. qts. [2,84 L] of water per 50-lb. [22,7-kg] bag).

2.2 Slowly add Planitop 18 to water while mixing, using a low-speed mixer. Mix for 1 to 2 minutes, removing any unmixed powder, and remix for another 1 to 2 minutes to a smooth, homogenous consistency.

2.3 For extended mix, add up to 80% by weight (40 lbs. [18,1 kg]) of washed, clean, saturated surface-dry (SSD) 3/8" (10 mm) graded aggregate per 50-lb. (22,7-kg) bag.

2.4 Do not overmix. Overmixing or moving the mixer up and down during the mixing process could cause air entrapment, which could shorten pot life.

2.5 Do not mix more material than can be applied within a 15-minute period.

3. Application

3.1 Planitop 18 is applied with a trowel, without formwork, on horizontal surfaces. The maximum thickness per coat is 2" (5 cm).

3.2 When encountering exposed reinforcing steel bars, clean bars and coat with Planibond 3C to protect against corrosion and to improve adhesion (see the respective Technical Data Sheet for details).

3.3 For large repair areas, use Mapecem ® 102 or Mapecem 202 (see respective Technical Data Sheet for details). For application thicknesses less than 1/2" (12 mm), use Mapecem 101 (see Technical Data Sheet for details).

3.4 Planitop 18 has a pot life of about 15 minutes at 73°F (23°C). Place material within its pot life. Application times will vary depending on climatic conditions.

4. Curing

4.1 During curing, protect Planitop 18 from excessive heat or draft conditions, which could cause cracking.

4.2 Mist-spray the surface with water as soon as possible during the first 24 hours of damp curing. Alternatively, use damp burlap, white polyethylene sheet or MAPEI’s Planicure ® 65 white liquid curing compound (see Technical Data Sheet for details). Do not use a solvent-based curing compound.

5. Cleaning

Wash hands and tools promptly with water before material hardens. Cured material must be mechanically removed.
