FASSI “RCH” EVOLUTION REMOTE CONTROLS

The new RCH radio remote controls developed by Fassi are with no doubt the most technologically advanced and innovative radio control systems for hydraulic cranes currently available on the market. Fassi has created a complete, advanced and expandable system that is also extremely simple to use and ergonomic to give the operator direct feedback with comprehensive information concerning the crane functions for even better control. The basic features of these remote controls, which are not available with many of our competitors’ products, are as follows: • A control handle with a large graphic display

visualising: induced pressures in the lifting rams in bar or as % use (r), percentage of winch use in regard to the maximum load (t), if fitted, current distributor bank’s pressure (s), crane working angle (o) or working angle of hydraulic jib (p), if fitted, oil temperature (q) in the oil cooler, alarm codes in case of malfunction of the electronic components, icons to select the programme menus (u), information of devices activation and warnings.

• The RX rotary switch on the control handle is used to

select the icons of the programme menus and to activate the devices. This solution allows the immediate and simple identification of the selected function. This innovative rotary switch makes the control handle extremely “clean” as the on/off buttons, normally present for the activation of the radio options, are eliminated and, from a safety point of view, there is no risk of involuntary activation of such buttons.

• The antenna and the receiver are one-piece with

greatly reduced dimensions. This unit is connected to the central processor unit by means of a single connector which transmits the information to the electronic central unit by means of CANBUS protocol.

The control handles of the radio control are available in the versions with 6 or 8 linear control levers or crossed joysticks for 6 or 8 functions. These photos illustrate the control handle’s features: A) Display. B) RX rotary switch. Turn clockwise to

move the icons selection from left to right of the display and anticlockwise for the contrary. The icon selection is confirmed by pressing the rotary switch.

C) Yellow led indicating that 90% load capacity has been reached.

D) Red led indicating that 100% load capacity has been reached, that is to say activation of the lifting moment.

E) Light indicating the battery status. The green light indicates the correct functioning (battery charged). The red light and presence of acoustic alarm (beep) indicate that battery is almost flat and needs to be replaced soon.

F) Button for activation of acoustic alarm.

G) INDEX button used for programming or menus selection.

I) Connection plug of the serial cable. The radio control is standard equipped of a 10 m serial cable to be connected between the control handle and the plug on the base.

L) Key to switch the control handle on. In position “0”, the control handle is off. In position “1” the control handle switches on (the emergency button has to be released).

The RCH radio controls are applicable to cranes equipped with the new “EVOLUTION” electronic system, as it already includes the necessary software to handle the controls. They are therefore currently available for the EVOLUTION cranes range (as standard equipment) and will be offered soon for the continuous rotation cranes range. The following is a list of the icons shown on the radio control display and their meaning. Bear in mind that this system has been developed for a future further expansion with handling of new devices:

In addition to the widely recognised advantages of the radio control, such as freedom of movement for the operator and greater safety, as it enables the operator to control the crane from a safety distance, the RCH remote controls actually exalt and amplify the radio performances. The advanced applied technology level and the easiness and intuitive usability make these controls unrivalled on the market today.

In summary, the tangible advantages (or in other terms, differences relative to other products offered by our competitors) in using an advanced remote control together with an advanced crane, both products of Fassi high technology, are as follows:

Advantages for the operator:

• Ability to monitor every aspect of crane control. The graphic display allows the operator to keep constantly under control the crane operational status and provides all the necessary information to evaluate the most appropriate manoeuvres to obtain a full use of the crane performance and characteristics.

• Total control over every crane function directly from the radio remote control panel.

Through the RX rotary switch and the electronic managing the icons in the graphic display, the operator can activate with only one finger all the crane functions (on/off functions, radio remote control options, such as engine on/off and increase/decrease engine speed, enable devices such as the XP and activation of the outriggers control functions).

• Constant interaction between operator and crane. The operator sends control signals to the

crane and the crane responds with messages shown on the graphic display, indicating operational status and operational problems due to erroneous control requests, safety devices or component malfunction.

• Personalization of the controls. All the radio remote control functions are managed by the

electronics on machine board. By modifying program parameters, the radio remote control functions may be personalised to suit specific operating conditions or operator preferences and needs. These include: control lever direction, speed parameters for each crane function, ramps, lever dead band for more or less immediate response of the operation and many more.

• Safety. Anyone considering purchasing a radio remote control system for the first time is

naturally concerned with radio transmission safety, as the air today is filled with radio waves. Fassi remote controls, as all radio systems, work at frequencies that are protected by applicable local law in the country of use. In addition to this, each remote control unit has its own unique identification code, to ensure that the crane may only be operated with its own, specific remote control. The receiver/antenna unit mounted on the crane is equipped with a dual processor that checks and verifies the incoming signal, while the on-board electronics verify that the response of the machine's hydraulic system corresponds with the radio signal received.

• Design. The radio remote control panels are designed with ergonomic and functional design;

they are remarkably compact and lightweight considering the number of functions offered.
