About There have been many different

trends and styles over the past 100 years, from flared trousers to low waisted jeans. This magazine will be showing the changes that have occurred. Also it will be showing

which trends have come, gone or stayed.

This magazine will be educational and interesting to both the young-er and older generation. As it talks about times the older generation

have lived through and experience. Whereas for the younger generation

it teaches them what styles used to be trendy and cool, also it could possibly inspire you to try a new

style.

1900’s fashion

womenDuring the 1900’s corsets were very fashionable. The s bend corset was the one most commonly worn, as it forced the chest forward and thrust the hips backwards. Most women wanted a pouter-pigeon shape and the s bend corset would allow them to get this desired shape.Frilly blouses were worn a lot by most women with a long skirt that was fitted around the hips and gradually fluted out as it closer to the hem. Hair was commonly worn in a middle parting and looped up to create volume.

MenMen mostly wore three piece lounge suits and added a cloth cap or bowler. The jackets that they wore were narrow with high, small lapels. Nearly all men wore their collars upstanding as it was fashionable to do so. Facial hair was commonly wore by most men, Younger men were most likely to wear moustaches whereas older men would wear a beard on most occasions.

1910’s Fashion

W o m e n sBlouses and skirts that were fluted were still widely worn but dur-ing this time the waistline got higher. As the decade went on world war one broke out and womens clothes drastically changed. Wom-en began to wear practical/working clothes as they had to do ‘mens’ work. many women wore uniforms, overalls or trousers. Near the end of the decade many younger women began to cut their hair short as it was more convenient and became very stylish.

M e n sMens fashion didn’t really change a lot. Many men still wore three piece lounge suits and either wore mous-taches or a beard. Between 1914-1918 many men were sent to war so in many pictures of this decade you will see them wearing military clothing such as trench coats or military hats. Mens hair was nor-mally in a middle or side parting during this time.

1920

womensAt the start of this decade it was trendy for women to wear tunic style tops and barrel shaped outfits. However only a little bit into 1920 the waistline dropped to the hip for a more tubular look. Hemlines would go between an-kle and midcalf. Many women would wear accessories like badges, hats and jewllery. Hair was worn tight to the head and bobs were very common

MensMen wore lounge suits that were narrow cut with collars pointed down or a modern knot tie.Among the working class it was popular to wear cloth caps.whereas in the middle class they had moved on from cloth caps and the new trend was homburgs. Men wore there hair very sleek and oiled.

1930’s Fashion

womensIn the 1930’s many women carried on wearing very similar clothes to the previous decade. However there was new-styles like long scooping back dresses, shoulder pads, fox fur jackets, satin evening gowns and fluted knee length skirts.During 1930’s hair was still very tight to the head and short but many women had began to try new styling techniques with there hair. A very popular hair style many people would do is gental finger waves.

mensMen carried on wearing three piece suits like previ-ous decades. However casual day wear outfits were becoming more popular. Men were now able to wear a range of different clothes like tank tops, cardigans, open necked shirts and more. also it wasn’t obligatory to wear a tie anymore.

1940’s Fashion

womensDue to the war there was a fabric shortages, this went on till the end of this decade. clothes were made with as little fabric as possible. Skirts were straight and went to just below the knee, many skirts didn’t have designs on them as it was looked at as a waste of fabric. Many men and woman wore uniforms. Hair was normally worn with gental waves and rolls on top of the head.

MensMilitary uniform was worn by most men during the war. Most men were clean shaven and hair was short at the sides and back. Men of-ten dressed in lounge suits with broad shoulders if they werent in the miliatary. After 1945 many men leaving the armed forces were issued with a ‘de-mob’ suit, consisting of tie, shirt, double-breasted jacket and loose fitting trousers.

1950‘s fashion womens

In 1950 they carried on following most of the late 40s trends like full skirts, cinched waists and slop-ing shoulders. Pencil skirts became very popular.

skirts, day dresses and jackets were known as day wear. many dresses and skirts were plain or in a floral print. Separates were trendy, especially cardigans waist length. Hair was tied back usually

if you had long hair or it was curled.

MensMens fashion still involved the suit but it was now

acceptable not to be wesring one loads. check jackets and tweed were very common. Hair was

popularly worn with a side parting but slicked back with ‘Brill cream’. Teenagers began to get influ-enced in 1950s. Their fashions were influenced

by celebritys in america, who wore jeans alot and leather.

1 9 6 0 ’ sFashion

WomensDuring the 1960’s designers such as Biba Label & Mary Quant introduced young women to the mini-skirt. Near the end of the decade many were involved with the Hippy move-ment which introduced vibrant patterns from non western cul-tures. Hair was oftern worn in a shaped bob or wedge style, women with longer hair prefering to wear it in a straight style.

MensUnlike previous decades there was a strong development in men’s fashion. In the past men’s fashion was very plain & boring the 1960’s changed this with more colourful clothes & new designs such as the collarless jacket & printed shirts. Unisex clothing was becoming more popular.

1970’s Fashion WomensThere were no rules for fashion in the 1970’s. Individu-ality was popular. Hippy was still fashionable but not for all women. The more glamourous style inspired by the 1940’s was also very popular. Tie dye shirts, peasant blouses, ponchos, capes, mini-skirts & maxi dresses were all acceptable fashion.

MensGlam Rock & Disco styles were a big influence to men’s fashion in the 1970’s. Bell-bottoms & wedge shoes were still popular from the Hippy movement. Glitter, Satin & velvet were now unisex wear. Towards the end of the decade three-piece suits became popular & for the first time were in a variety of colours, pale blue, beige & famously white inspired by films such as Sat-urday Night Fever featuring John Travolta.

1980s

Fashion

Womens Fashion Accessories & bright vivid colours were what the 1980’s will be rememberd for, shiny costume jewellerywere still an influence from the punk era. Hair & make up were curly, big & heavy. Crop tops, tube tops & knee length tight skirts were popular. Thin belts, knee high boots, jelly shoes, leg warmers & big shoulder pads were all fashion in-fluences from TV shoes in this decade.

MensFlared Jeans were now on the way out to make way for straight leg trousers, athletic wear was now more popular than every before. Pop music and videos were now a large part of life and influenced everyday fashion. Cow boy boots, slouch socks, leather jackets, flannel shirts, T shirts & Doc Marten boots were all 80’s style.

1990’sFashion

MensAll previous trends were preety much gone as men wanted to reinvent their style to make it more casual. Rave, grunge and hip-hop were very ‘in’ and trendy. T-shirts, shorts, jeans, trainers, sweat-shirts, hoodies, tattoos and piercings were seen as trendy and many mens closets were filled with these trends. Mens hair was very relaxed and many men just left it to its natural state.

WomensWomens clothing during the 90s wasn’t as over the top as the 80s but still had a very bold appearance. Black leggings with oversized jumpers or t-shirts was very common to be wearing. Near the end of this decade the fashion began to move on to shape the 2000s fashion ideas. Hair was normally quite big but still very relaxed.

2000s Fashion

MensDuring the 2000s mens fashion was very bold and many men learnt how to express themselves through clothes. Distressed demin was very pop-ular and many Men wore it. Also during this time military wear was very stylish to wear as casual clothing. Suits became very unlikely to see unless you were at a fancy occasion. Younger mens style was a tad different to older men as many younger men were inspired by skater and hip hop culter. There was many different hair styles for men to pick from but one of the most popular was spiked hair.

WomensWomens fashion during 200os was seen as a mash up of all the previous decades as it had a little bit of everything. One of the most popular fashion styles was hip hop. Clothes that would be popularly worn are like low rise jeans, tight tops, short skirts and a lot of ac-cessories. Many women would wear there hair in my different styles there wasnt really a specific style they followed.
