Anyone looking for a small yard tractor will have anew model to add to their shortlist from January.It’s Zetor new Major Tractor and it takes its namefrom a model that sold more than 1m copiesbetween 1960 and 2006.The new Major is an 80hp machine that issomewhat more compact than Czech firm’s currentbase Proxima models. That makes it more suitablefor tight farmyards and it will probably supersedethe base Proximas in time.More than 70% of the tractors are likely to go outwith front loaders, and a synchro shuttleis standard.Engines are 4,156cc, four cylinder, eight-valveunits, with no electronics or need for AdBlue/EGR.Transmissions are pretty uncomplicated, with threeranges and four gears, but no splittersor powershifts.
