Pigments, pigment preparations and dyes from ClariantClariant supplies pigments and dyes. These ranges, supplementedby pigment preparations, special formulations and special grades, contain a wide variety of products for the paint and surface coatingsindustry as well as for other special fields.
On the following pages we give a general overview of our colorants, indicating their possible uses in the main fields of application. Onlythe standard ranges of the pigments and dyes have been includedhere.
It is not appropriate to treat the other special grades, preparationsand special dyes in the same way because they appear in the bro-chure as separate ranges with details of their special fields of appli-cation.
The symbols mean: ■ = highly recommended● = recommended❍ = limited suitability
We would however point out that these recommendations aresimply a general guide that is intended to make it easier to selectsuitable products from our range of colorants.
Frequently required physical data of the pigments and additionaltechnical details about the aqueous pigment preparations, such aspigment and solids content as well as type and amount of solvent, are given in the brochure so as to reduce the need for inquiries.
Details of coloristic and fastness properties can be taken from theliterature quoted and the following pattern cards:
DP 5018 »Decorative paints, industrial paints, automotive paints«DP 5009 »Pigments for automotive paints«DP 5013 »Organic pigments for powder coatings«
Our sales organizations and our technical service and developmentdepartment will be pleased to give you further information at anytime.
Notes on diarylide pigments
It has been known for some considerable time that thermalclearages may occur diarylide pigments when they are processedin polymers at temperatures above 200 °C.
The following pigments supplied by Clariant are diarylide pigments:
Pigment Yellow 12 Pigment Orange 13Pigment Yellow 13 Pigment Orange 34Pigment Yellow 14Pigment Yellow 16Pigment Yellow 17Pigment Yellow 81Pigment Yellow 83
All commercial products recommended for the paint industry thatare based on the above diarylide pigments can be found in thisbrochure.
These products can form traces of aromatic amines at processingtemperatures above 200 °C in the presence of polymers (see safetydata sheets; further information is also given in ETAD INFORMATIONNOTICE No. 2 »Thermal Decomposition of Diarylide Pigments« –September 1990).
Many dyestuffs, pigments and chemicals are patented innumerous industrial countries

2 Numerical code and special grades
2.2 TS range
In the course of improving or further developing existing pigments/pigment preparations for special fields of application or specialprocessing methods there is a need for modified grades or specialgrades, which are identified by adding a two-digit number to thepigment name. Each further modification to one and the same pig-ment is identified by the next consecutive number.
We use the following system:

3.2 Hostatint®*
Binder-free multipurpose pigment preparations in paste form that arecompatible with aqueous and with non-aqueous solvent-containingpaint systems.
The preffered field of application of the Hostatint grades is decorativepaints based on aqueous polymer dispersions of all kindes and long-oil alkyd resin paints. They may be fully compatible with other bindersystems, but this should be checked by trials.
The pourable and pumpable consistency of the multipurrpose pigment
preparations makes for ease and accuracy of dispensing and is an ad-vantage when automotic dispensing equipment is used in processing.
The individual grades are miscible in all proportions with each other.
The Colour Index data relate to the basic pigments. The data given inthe table may vary because these pigment preparations are standardi-zed in respect to tinctorial strength.

■ = highly recommended ● = recommended ❍ = limited suitability
Savisol liquid dyes are highly concentrated and stable solutions ofselected Savinyl powder dyes based on a polar organic solventsystem. A supply form is therefore offered, which is both convenientto use and cost effective. Although Savisol liquid dyes are primarilyrecommended for solvent systems, they can be used with particularcare in some lower VOC applications by diluting with de-ionised
water or water/alcohol mixtures. The concentration of the Savisolliquid dyes is indicated within the description of the displayedpanels.

5 Overview arranged by Colour Index data (generic name)
The following overview lists our pigments, pigment preparationsand dyes already published in the Colour Index, arranged by theirgeneric name.
If only the generic name but not the C.I. No. is given, the productwas published without details of its constitution.
We would point out that identical generic names simply indicateidentical chemical composition. The application properties ofcolorants are however influenced to a greater or lesser extentnot only by their chemical composition but also by numerous otherfactors such as particle size distribution, crystallinity, surfacetreatment, impurities etc. For this reason products having identicalcompositions and identical generic names may differ completelyin their application properties.
