A greenlight of the first concepts for the Computer ANimation Arts university minor project "Fantastic Voyage" that I plan to work on. An informative stylised video on the life cycle of the Malaria parasite, that will detail each step of the complex process.

  • Chosen Scenario:

    Malaria

    Malaria (Plasmodium) is a microbial

    parasite that develops between the internal

    anatomies of humans and female

    mosquitoes of the genus Anopholes.

    Malaria sporozoites enter the bloodstream

    by being carried within mosquito saliva and

    travel to the liver where one divides into

    thousands of merozoites

    Once in the bloodstream, merozoites enter

    red blood cells where they develop into

    trophozoites and then schitzons which grow

    until the blood cell swells and bursts,

    releasing thousands of merozoites to repeat

    the cycle

    Some schizons form one of two dimorphic

    gamete cells that wait until they are drawn

    by another mosquito and use the conditions

    inside a mosquitos gut to combine and

    develop into a zygote that grows into a

    oocyst that divides into new sporozoites.

    Young students between 13 and 19 who

    may be disinterested in science

  • Market Research

    Research gathered indicates that among students and young people, some of

    the most popular games surveyed include Starcraft, Call of Duty and Halo.

    The greatest proportions of people identified as gamers in the UK are either

    those under 24 (for how frequently they play) and the percentage of the UK

    population who identify themselves as gamers (18-17 and 25-34 groups)

    Out of these two factors, the 8-17 age range scores highest both in gaming

    frequency and percentage who identify themselves as gamers.

  • For influences I looked into the

    work of H. R. Giger and Syd

    Mead, modern aesthetics (such

    as smartphones and modern

    tube stations), current

    nanotechnology and designs

    from war-based games such as

    Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare.

    I have considered a

    biomichenical aesthetic for the

    world of the animation, inspired

    by the Xenomorph-like life cycle

    and almost grey goo qualities of

    the Malaria plasmodium.

    The feel of the animations world

    will be intentionally divided

    between the clean Syd Mead

    aesthetic of the body, and the

    brutal Giger aesthetic of the

    malaria parasites.
