Special Techniques
M1: when instructed to M1 (make one), lift the purl bump from theprevious row onto the left hand needle. Does not use the back bar as

Cast on 6 sts (2 on each needle, 2 2 2) in the colour you want for thebottom of your cupcake, pink in the photo above to look like a paper
baking cup.
Bottom of cupcake
Inc1 in all sts (4 4 4)Inc1, k1; repeat around (6 6 6)

Purl one round.

Cupcake
Change to the colour you want to represent your cupcake (in the photohere, that would be brown).
Knit one round.
Inc1, p2; repeat around (20 20 20)Purl 5 rounds.
Shape top of cupcake
P2tog, p3; repeat around (16 16 16)Purl one round.
P2tog, p2; repeat around (12 12 12)
Purl one round.P2tog, p1; repeat around (8 8 8)
Purl one round.
P2tog all (4 4 4)Purl one round.
Fill with polyfil stuffing, firmly but not overstuffed.
P2tog all (2 2 2)Break yarn and sew through remaining sts.
To better define the edge between the cake and the cup, sew throughthe cup's top edge with yarn matching the cup colour. Pass the needle
under the knit stitches and over the purled stitches as shown in the
photo below. Pull snug but not overly tight, and this will cause therippled edge of the cup to become more defined and make the cake
portion pop out more.

Optional Icing
The icing can be left off (see the gallery for a photo of what it looks
like without the icing), done in your own freeform way, or you canfollow this pattern to duplicate the photo.
With icing colour (white in the photo), cast on 6 sts (2 on each needle,

Reintroduce yarn where you would have knit next if you hadn't turnedto make the previous blob.
BO 5 sts.

K3, turn.Break yarn and sew through remaining three sts.
Position icing as desired on cupcake, pin in place ensuring that it sits
flat, and stitch all around the edge with matching thread.
For sprinkles, use scraps of coloured yarn to sew in and out randomly
all over the icing. Space some stitches out and make others cross. Donot pull stitches too tight or they will pucker the surface.
