JanuarysNewSettlements:

Dear Belle Terre Residents, As of January 2021, our newly-formed Welcome Committee began personally greeting new residents to our community with a basket filled with useful information and a few special items to brighten the newcomer’s day and ease the hassle of settling in. We plan to retroactively acknowledge all of you who moved in earlier, with a surprise gift.

Reaching out to your neighbors can be a fun way to establish common interests and begin new, lifelong friendships. Be approachable, allow relationships to progress naturally, and never underestimate the power of a genuine smile to brighten both your day and someone else’s. Your Belle Terre Welcome Committee members are available to answer questions about town services, restaurants, grocery stores, places to worship or shop, reliable service providers, etc.

We have stored a few community resources in the clubhouse for you, which we obtained from the Lewes and Rehoboth Chambers of Commerce. They are located in the central cabinet directly beneath the bookshelves. Feel free to browse them and jot down information to take with you. Some resources are yours to keep. Please take one for each household. We will re-stock as necessary.

What should you do when ice forms on your walks and patios? Grab some rock

salt and generously spread it everywhere? Absolutely not! Did you know that

rock salt (sodium chloride) is commonly used on asphalt roads for de-icing, but

that same rock salt should never be used as a de-icing agent on anything oth-

er than asphalt. Salt should not be applied to walks or patios, regardless of

whether your walks and patios are natural stone, pavers, or concrete because

salt will damage all surfaces other than asphalt. Rock salt will damage your grass

and plantings. Magnesium chloride is a preferred way of de-icing ; it is environ-

mentally friendly and safe for plants and animals.

Giving Back: Thanks to everyone who donated winter coats, gloves, hats,

toothbrushes, etc. to the homeless. The picture of items on the

table is from our community.

They were extremely appreciative!!

For February we are adding a new way to support Noah’s Army Platoon of 17 soldiers

in Afghanistan. In the clubhouse you will find a poster that says ADOPT A SOLDIER and lists the

names of the men who are part of the platoon. We would like to show our support and appreciation

in our February shipment of goodies by including handwritten cards and we want to make it easy for

you to participate! Deadline for cards is February 5th...

• Pick a soldier (or 2!) from the list on the board. It’s ok if there are already initials there – they can

get more than 1 card. Add your initials for just Feb or for all 3 shipments.

• Take a card from the table or use a card of your own

• Write a message of thanks, encouragement, and cheer. You might want to tell a bit about

yourself. Many of these soldiers are young, some first deployment and they appreciate a note

from home expressing that their service means something to us!

• Put the soldiers name on the front of the envelope and put it in the box on the table.

• If you want to send a card or note yourself its very simple: use one US stamp and address to: Name of Soldier
