How to Upload Skin and Clothing Textures to your Avatar in OpenSim
Step 1: The first thing you need to do to get started is to open up your Photoshop templates.
There are four different templates:
1) The Head Template 2) The Lower Template 3) The Skirt Template 4)The Upper Template
Step 2: Once you have imported one of these files into Photoshop, you can begin your design.
-‐You can brush bold colors on the skirt or body to make bright clothing, or you can even cover up your entire face to make it colorful.
As you can see here, I colored over the front body and the back body. When I eventually import this into OpenSim, nothing that is in the black will be rendered, so don’t worry about “staying in the lines.”

Also, it is important to note that there are lots of grids and numbers, these won’t show up when you import them into OpenSim either, but they are there to help you keep track of where details should go.
This was a fairly simplistic design, I didn’t use any shading or detail. However, I can get as detailed as I
want to be, I’ll show you another example now.
.
As you can see here, I didn’t stay within the lines. You don’t need to. I even added shading to the muscles by using the Burn and Dodge tools in Photoshop. However, before uploading into SL or OS, we
must make sure that the guiding lines are not visible.

As you can see here, I got rid of all those multi-‐color guiding lines by moving my color layer to the top. Save it as a .PNG
Now we are ready to upload!
First choose upload image.
Once you’ve found your image, click upload. It will automatically be saved to your inventory as a texture. Name it whatever you want, something you will easily remember.

lower skins. Here’s what my finished Avatar looks like.

NOTE: You can also create new clothing, like a shirt, and upload the same file as a fabric. In this way, you can change the shape of your shirt (make it poofy, long, short sleeve, etc.)
As you can see, I found a picture of Brad Pitt on the internet and pasted him onto the Photoshop
template. I had to stretch his face so that his eyes and mouth and chin line up with the grid already laid

out. Make sure you erase the eyes, because the eyes for the avatar are already in Opensim, we don’t need his eyes. We’re not done yet though, we still have to cover in all the white spaces. This part can be
tricky, because we have to stretch his face some more and fill in the white spaces with skin. We also have to find a profile picture of him so we can see the side of his face.
I then found a profile shot of brad pitt, I pasted that onto the same picture, overlapping the portrait shot, and then I flipped the image around and did it on the other side. Erase the eyes, nose and mouth on the profile shot so that it looks like a seamless face that is stretched out.
Here is my final shot of Brad. I took the profile shot of him and put in his hair (lower left and lower right) and I also zoomed in on his ear and inserted that into the ear slots. Now he is ready to upload into OS,
just upload this file as a Head Tattoo.
